Why would they remove this feature for many subs.

All the subchannels and PBS are back to where they were a few weeks ago.
Why would they make the EPG data so restrictive?

If they aren't going to provide sub-channel data for locals, then at least change the ViP-622 programming such that Digital Service rating is NR instead of NR/AO. That is how it is on the 811. You can't view PBS Kids here in St. Louis if you have Ratings Locks in effect on the 622.

I guess I should add to my previous post-

Getting PSIP data is nice, but not the whole deal. IIRC, PSIP is designed to provide current and following program info, and no more. To get listings in the EPG for the next several days means Dish has to pay for the data. PSIP won't do it. They don't want to give it away for free.

If you just hit stop you can delete. You don't have to be at the end of the program to delete.

I realize that, but I shouldn't have to fast forward for an hour after an hour show is over to get to the end. An hour show is supposed to be an hour not two. This is why I think the ota guide data for the sub channels were pulled.

Thats not true, I don't know the technical limit but most stations I get usually have 6 or 12 hours worth and some have 24 hours worth.

My OTA STB's guide will advance out a week but its never that full

PSIP is entirely too vaigue (error-prone) to be reliable for recording purposes, since each station generates it's own data - ITS A MESS - NOBODY USES IT.

That needs to be a sticky post or a FAQ entry (does this site have that ??). This is exactly why almost no DVR uses PSIP guide data. It's almost useless in regards to a DVR's functionality.

I'm no expert at reading these but I notice some HD was moved....is that more MPEG4 movement?

Something I've been curious about for a while now. If someone was watching - lets say G4 in this case - and it switches transponders as described above - what does the viewer see? Does the screen go blank or does the receiver somehow know to switch to the new transponder?

Different receivers react in different ways. Most would likely hiccup and get the channel from the new location.

I would be totally happy with just having any HD OTA added to the guide. Especially PBS. (The other sub PBS stations tend to be remixes of what is on the local primary PBS.) Without the guide data it's a high value HD source waiting to be tapped.

If your PBS stations is part of a translator network (multiple channels in different locations broadcasting the same program schedule), it's possible that Dish only publishes data for the primary station in the network. However, the receiver is not smart enough to know where to look for the data, when it gets mapped down.

For example, the DC / Baltimore area, there are 3 stations that are part of the MPT translator network. Their calls are: WMPT (22 - Annapolis), WFPT (62 - Fredrick), and WBPT (67 - Owing Mills). I can get 62 and 67 reasonably well at my location. However, the 'primary' station is 22. Since the guide data is only provided for 22, none of the data populates for channels 62 or 67. As an aside, Dish does not consider any of the stations to be in the D.C. market, even though the signal covers the entire area. Since WMPT is registered to the Baltimore DMA, it does not matter to them that the translators serve the D.C. market!

Just to be clear, I was agreeing with your earlier post (the one I quoted). Unless I get can get a min of 24 hours of reliable PSIP data, I'd just as soon do without.

The Nebraska PBS does not use Translators. There all full power normal stations with normal call letters. It covers the whole state.

The Dish OTA guide data did not work. I wonder if its becuase NE PBS puts there HD feed on digital sub channel #5 and not #1 like everyone else. They also do not use the stations call letters for the channel name they change everything to NET-1 NET-2 NET-3 and NET-5 (for Nebraska Educational TV).

The strange channel name along with Im sure other stations around the country doing it also, might of mess up Dishes plan. Just an idea.

I contacted Dish they said it was the stations fault and they needed to change there call letter mapping back to call letters.
