how well do they work ,i bought this of a guy at a garage sale for $35.00 .his son owned it but he has moved away to ontario.it was covered in dust . i guess it wasn't used for a while.
works good but only shows 119,110.91,82 .im assuming it was use for hacking .still a nice find. guess im thinking ill have to install factory file.still a nice find.

the blind scan isnt the best but from what I've read its a good receiver

nope, it's a separate file for the Sats:

It probably is not the most up to date file, but has more than the Echostar and Bell Sats.

There is a "cleaner" flash that should wipe all traces of hackware. I dont know if it is sanctioned by VS or not, but it should wipe the "Ghost in the Machine" and allow a true/complete factory reset. I'll see if I can locate it.

Do you know if it would work on a hacked CaptiveWorks 6000 Premium? I picked up one off of Criags List and loaded the latest firmware, but, there are trace of hackware on it I want to see if I can restore it to an unhacked state.

The sat file for all Viewsats are outdated (some over years old). The only updated files you will find is for the Dishnetwork and Bell satellites. Therefore you have to manually input all the sats.
The sat sig threshold to avoid pixels is 64%, unlike Coolsat that is 34%. Therefore if you have a signal it takes a strong signal to lock/show.
Viewsat still have bugs in their software. When I manually add, delete, edit, etc it will crash and you will loose all channels/lock up. Even if you do a factory default/reset.

Just add another satellite and name it AMC9. Or pick one from the list that isn't used and rename it. As long as you set the parameters right in the setup screen, it will work.
