VIP211 & the program guide

Yesterday my program guide on my VIP211 had mostly info unavailable and I could not get it to do the update thing.
As far as I can see there is no power off button other than the remote.
I could not force an update so I had to unplug it from the AC and then it updated.
Is there a way to force an update with out powering off the machine?

Menu, 6, 1, 1, run "Check Switch". It will update following that.
