VOD tentative launch date Sept 17th

I managed to get a memo sent today from a local installer.

Good to see they have a lauch plan, odd that they would try to do it right during the launch of all the new HD channels.

Why not do VOD at the same time as lighting up all the HD channels? Look at all the commercials they can put out showing all the new stuff saying it's here now, not something coming in a couple of years, generating a lot of 'excitement'.

I would expect it in CE testing in the next couple/few weeks. And yea, why not launch it with the new HD channels. I see the ads now: "Coming Sept 17th....60 HD channels and 25 HD VOD movies..."

Plus maybe they will just use D10 to deliver the sat based material since you have to have an HR20 for VOD anyway. Makes sense.

Going by past history, I would say it will be at least another 3 or 4 weeks before it shows up in a CE, they preview things in advance, but not that far in advance usually.

Depends how much pounding they want done on it before release. Either way, it's coming soon.

I would do it the earlier the better with the CE group. There are some serious QA testers in that group that find every little thing. I would make sure it passes that group before doing any national rollout. I am part of that group but not as insane as some of them. So Directv if you are reading, please release VOD now to CE. You wont be sorry.
