Probably wrong, but this morning I called for something else and
asked about the upcoming software upgrade and the CS rep told me that
I needed a landline connected to the box to receive the next software
upgrade.

I'm sure it is just like DirecTV and Dish where they say REQUIRED but I have
friends that have had them for years and NEVER had a phone line plugged into
it.

My point is....

Everybody stop f*ing bitching about this and that...we all read when we
signed up that we needed a landline, I don't care how cool or smart you
think you are, or how much you save because you use DSL or any other phone
substitute, it's there in black and white so if you're not happy stop
bitching and cancel, stop putting down the service because you
neglected/chose to ignore the requirements.....

As far as OTA, you got the service for the HD, not to watch your g*d*mn
local news and/or channels on your 61" HD set....if you can afford an HD set
you better be able to afford additional local cable/additional dish for
those channels Voom doesn't carry, again their channel line up is listed
before hand in b/w, if you chose to ignore this and now you're bitching all
over the forums 'cause you can't get Sci Fi or HGTV it's on you!!...Let me
let you in on a little secret, get two receivers, one being your VOOM and
the other one being of your choice which carries your local
networks/superstations/OTAs & missing channels....Should anyone have really
spent all this money on an HD If they can't afford to have two receivers? HD
is not cheap, HD is cutting edge, with ANY AND ALL NEW TECHNOLOGY THERE ARE
DRAWBACKS, NOTHING IS PERFECT!!!

If you can't figure any of the above by yourselves then return your HD and
get a regular TV.

I'm sure I'm speaking for a large silent majority of people who have nothing
to complain, but are fed up with reading all these complaints and whines...I
don't even know who this Wilt guy is but the man's a saint, he actually puts
up with all the crybabies here...yeah yeah I know you want your money back
and you're tired of waiting for the CSR and/or Supervisor, guess what?
that's life, or better yet, GET A LIFE!!!

A VERY HAPPY VOOM CUSTOMER WITH LOCAL CABLE HD FOR MY OTA & VOOM FOR THE
HD!!!
and yes, I do get HGTV & the Sci Fi Channels...on my local cable!!!

Thank you for Clarifying Aldo,

I agree 100%, lately there has been nothing but crabbing on here about
the service.... Which until 24 hours ago was wonderful. I didn't think this
forum was created for people to whine about the channels they don't have and
threaten to cancel if they don't appear. They knew what they were getting
from the start.

Thanks again

Eric

Ditto.

I want the missing channels as much as the next person but you don't see me
on here whining and making stupid empty threats.

I have two receivers and I got my parents to sign up for voom and they have
3 receivers. We're all waiting, patiently I might add, for the missing
channels but we know they're gonna be added eventually and can wait. We're
all happy and love our VOOM. You talked about perfection.. well when voom
"does" add the missing channels and releases the dvr, voom will be just
that, perfect!

Aldo

Some of the people come to vent about certain things but you are very correct about the phone line issue. People new about up front. I do have to say tho I find legitimate complaints at times about service interruptions as about the TNT-HD the other night although I have to add that I would have not noticed that night because I was busy and not watching TV. I did offer my location and that I had the issue so that there would be a location for Voom to troubleshoot. Point being certain things need to be brought up, but many things are getting brought way to often. I want to add that more channels would be nice, but as you mentioned I have what Voom does not offer thru my local cable company. Before I ordered I looked at Vooms programing offering then printed out that line up -v- cable co lineup and chose the cable package to complement what Voom was missing. (Wifes channels are the cable ones hehe) I stick to Voom most of the time when I watch TV.

I LOVE Voom. They are state of the art and are going thru growing pains. The future of the technology is endless. I am hanging on for the long ride ahead. WM9, MPEG4, Oval dual LNB dish picking up 2 Sattelites!!!!!!!! 96 HD channels!!!! And I can RENT the boxes and not plunk down $499 each, which I don't have so I would not have HD without Voom!! $0 down and $0 installation. Come off it, NO ONE else has this!!!! Loving my Voom in Plano, TX

I disagree with the OTA signals...........Lot's of HD content on there for FREE!
if we had a STB that wasn't a Tonka
so, NO! I shouldn't have to pay for two services.

[VOOM] Re: Customer Service Says Landline Required for Next Upgrade

My Voom box gets all the OTA channels just fine as it has from day
one. I don't even need local channel scanning in my situation, but I
understand others might need this feature. So far, they've kept the
local channel map updated when new channels hit the air. Now if the
local PBS and WB stations would get their act together and get on
the air, but that's a whole other story.

Overall, I'm quite happy with Voom, although there is always room
for improvment, both with the technical and programming sides. Some
people would never be happy no matter how many channels are added,
or how good the PQ is.
