There are a limited number of us "southern" Canadians who subscribe
to ExpressVu. I have for 3 years via HD 6000 box. Most oof us are
considered "grey" market subscribers. We pay for our service.
They aren't allowed to sell to U.S. subscribers. IOW, when you
subscribe, you have to give them a Canadian address. If you don't
have a friend/relative in Canada, there are "brokers" who will sell
you an address. You can set up your account so that your credit card
is auto charged each month. I went the first 2 years w.o. ever seeing
mail from them - until they did a card swap and my cousin sent me the
card. They take U.S. cards.
You can call CS from the states on their 416 number. The 800
number is blocked.
I got my box from www.kusat.com who also sponsors a GREAT forum
concerning Canadian DBS. There are some number of southerners there
who can answer quastions.
Their HD is on a sat. at 82. It covers the whole U.S. - altho if
you are in Ca. or southwest you may need a 24" dish. I use a 24" in
Berkeley, altho an 18" may have been ok. Their std. programing is
half on 91 which comes in fine all over on an 18" - but, they moved
the other half of std. def. programing to an old sat last fall. that
doesn't cover Ca. or a lot of the south at all.
Next to VOOM they have the most HD, incl. about 4 HD PPV channels
(movies). I think D* only has one HD PPV.
No problems. Just remember that if you call CS that you are in
Canada. And, of course, you can't hook up to a phone line. If you
want PPV you can order online at no extra charge.
They use DISH boxes. You can NOT use a DISH box - BEV's boxes
have their own serial numbers. Of course you can use DISH dishes and
other hardware. They do not yet have a DVR, but rumor has it they
will use the DISH 942 by fall. They decided against adopting the 921
at all.

had to offer and are equally regretful to see a satellite venture fall
off the grid. The demise was predictable, based on the conflicts
within management and the advent of competing services in the
broadcast of HD services. Being in a BrandsMart last week and hearing
from the floor sales rep he was unaware of any pending fate was indeed
bewildering, but also a barometer of the shaky rollout of the service.

our hardware with equipment in the field, we can tell you the outside
dish components will work satisfactorily with realignment, and, that
our receiver would have to replace any other receiver.

residing in AZ, TX, and FL, would remain a limited option. (All other
regions throughout mainland US receive robust signal - you might
preview the signal diagram in our Web Site for familiarization) We say
this because although there is adequate signal from Nimiq-2, which is
the downlink location of the BEV HD programming, a number of
transponders on the companion Nimiq-1 satellite do not reach these
regions. This would mean that the full schedule of HD programming
would be accessible, and some of the analog programming would not be
delivered. The alternative Star Choice system has full signal access
in these regions, but subscribers have told us the BEV selection is
superior in their opinion.
