Wanting to get HDTV to both TV's with DVR

I currently have a 622 DVR duo tuner setup with HDTV to the television on the first floor and SD broadcast to the basement television. Both televisions are HDTV (Sony and Pioneer).

Just wondering what would be the best setup to get HD on both sets. We are remodeling our basement and would love to have the HD downstairs also. Should I just keep the 622 and get another 622? Or maybe I should upgrade the new one to the 722?

Any help would be appreciated. I don't mind paying a little for the receiver. I am currently not in contract as I already fulfilled my 18 month commitment about 6 months ago.

We like the option of taping shows while watching another one. That is why I prefer to stick with the duo-tuner.

One complaint for me with Dish is that the NFL network is only available with the 200 station package. Direct provides it with only 150 channels.

You could run Component to the basement TV by getting cables from monoprice like this

Use HDMI upstairs, and the cables that dfergie mentioned (click on the words 'this', for about $25 shipped) in the basement - all tied to TV1 on the Satellite receiver. They will both output at the same time the same signal - but you'll get HD to the basement TV. You can operate the satellite in single mode and use remote #2 in the basement to control the operation. And if you don't like that, you can get another remote (6.3 that does UHF) for TV1. That's what I'm looking into right now.

Brad, if you don't mind spending the money, buy a 612 ird for one of the rooms. It is a dual tuner meant for connection to one room so you can watch and record seperate shows.

I ran a 50ft. hdmi from my 622 and have my other hd hooked via component. I got the 21.0 UHF remote.

Worked for me.

Btw. The hdmi cable was $40 from Amazon.

Thanks for all the help guys. I should have been a little clearer. My oldest son, who has a disability will be using the HDTV downstairs most of the time. Consequently, we cannot just run a cable downstairs to the Pioneer (which does not have a HDMI port).

We will probably have to lease another 622 to use downstairs. More expense but probably no other option for the desired results.

I get NFL network with a $30 package, but I hardly ever watch it since it basically doesn't air any live games. Seemed backward to me, but then I found out how they make money. I'd gladly give it up for one of the other popular HD channels I don't get.

What do you want NFL network for anyway?

Can you not run another cable at all, or just not an HDMI cable? The Component + Toslink option is the cheapest if you can do it.

If you want another receiver with the extra monthly fee and just need HD and DVR - then the cheapest way to go would be a 211 with an external hard drive (I think). Or the 222 for a dual-tuner. That way you don't need to pay the receiver fee AND the DVR fee. There is a one time fee of $40 for the hard drive activation. But you may need a different satellite setup if you add another receiver and that costs more with no committment.

What is it that you really are looking to do?

You don't need a duo-tuner to record one show while watching another one, IF the one you are watching is one you already recorded. Plus if this new receiver is for the basement primarily and you already have 2 tuners for upstairs, you may only need one more downstairs instead of 2 more.

Good idea - and price: $169 with no committment.

Brad: Claude could answer your questions about supporting a new receiver with your existing setup or if you need to upgrade something.

And if most of the channels you like as a 2nd tuner working simultaneously with the first are locals - then just connect an antenna and you're set.

Then you need another receiver. You could get a Vip 612 for downstairs,and keep your 622 where it is.
Or you could get Vip211 ,But a USB 2.0 self powered portable hardrive, and turn this into a DVR. But its a 1 time Fee of $40, But it will save you a DVR fee per month of $6 over the VIP 612.
Just remember though, $40 External recording option for the 211, can not be used on the 612,622or722. and doesn't pause or rewind live tv, It just records.
If you want to add recording space to your 622, you'll have to pay another $40 fee.
Only the 612,622,722 can share the same external hard drive.
Your better off with a 612 or a 722 for your addtional HD TV.
722 is what I would pick.

Ask for the Account specialist department and let them know what your trying to do, They may just give you a good discount, if you can't get it for free.

The way you are stating this it sound like there would be multiple $40 fees for the ext HDD. You only have to pay 1 $40 fee for an entire account.

Do you have proof that its only 1 fee?
I know its one fee for all the HD DVRs on the account, but the 211's according to Dish come with another $40 fee. If not Let us Know.

Thats what I thought since I had to pay twice once for my 211k and once for my 622.
