After I record a program or an On Demand movie to my HR20-1000 is there a way that I can move a copy of the program to my laptop so I can play it while I am out of the house?

Yep.

You can connect up a computer to the DVR, play the entire program on the DVR and record the program using a tv tuner via the s-video output port of the DVR.

I do it sometimes.

I think you can even use a HAUPPAUGE HD DVR that records via the component video cables in HD quality if you want to.

Best you can do is capture it, you'd play it on the receiver and record it on the computer with a capture device, much like a vcr.

All that DIRECTV2PC does it let you watch a program from your DIRECTV DVR on a computer in the house connected to the same network as the DIRECTV DVR is. It doesn't copy a program to your laptop so you can't watch it when you are away from the house.
