Can I go to the sd weather channel directly with having to show sd duplicates on my guide so I can watch the weather on the 8's?

I have the same question. I couldn't find a way to only enable the SD version of TWC.

Also, do you need to have locals to get the info? Where does the info come from?

yes:
1. select sd duplicates (yes....the reason why explained in 4).
2. create a favorites list.
3. check all the channels u want (including weather channel sd) in the list.
4. that way weather channel sd is the only sd u will get.
