It generally believed that the top TV markets, in general, are NY and LA. (That is why content providers love NY/LA sports finals.) One would assume that it would be similar for carriers, as well.

NY and LA are most likely the top two for national providers. But I would also assume Chicago, Philly, Washington DC., etc. to be in the top 10. Look at the Nielson ratings.

You have to remember that in some large metro areas people do not have access to satellite due to apartments, line of sight, etc.

I remember someone saying North Louisiana was one of the highes satellite viewership areas. Not sure if that was by numbers alone or if it was by penetration in that market.

It may have been per capita, in which low-population, remote areas would reign supreme.

YEP! All the needed to do on that chart was to put the population next to it and using the percentages figure out the number of people in each market that have what.

Taking the ADS% (Alternative Delivery Systems) into account with the market ranking, it appears that Los Angeles is the clear #1 for satellite delivery in total volume, since it ranks at 36% ADS while the #1 market, NYC, is at a lowly 12.9%.

If I had the time, I'd do the math. Keep in mind that ADS includes not just satellite, but IP delivery as well, but I'm sure the vast majority of the ADS number is from satellite.
