What are they watching in Middle the East? I was reading an article about Iraq and they said there were satellite dishes on "every house."

What kind of service do they get? Is it free? What kind of equipment are they using? I saw a news story that showed shops selling lots of dishes. I guess it is fairly inexpensive.

Just curious....

In the ME, you will be able to get over 1000+ FTA (in the clear) channels from satellites such as ArabSat, NileSat, Astra, Turksat, eutelsat, Amos, and Hotbird. These are the main satellites (see complete list on www.lyngsat.com ).

Also, subscription services are available through Orbit and Showtime (similar to our Dish Network and direcTV services here in the USA). Having 100s of channels available FTA, and (slim margins) retail price competitions, almost every family can afford an FTA system over there.

Almost 90% of the systems installed are motorized (HH or Actuator) systems. Many use, cheap 36V dish positioners to control the dish motor.

Thanks -- that is what I was after. They can get free service, sort of like our OTA rabbit ears in the US. Except they can get many more channels:up
