What to do with Old DirecTV boxes

depends on if there leased or not. But even if therey leased I could not imagine them wanting them back but call us and confirm.

If they don't want them back after calling (I would ask for an emailed verification) there are plenty of electronic recycling centers around to dump them off at. You might want to destroy the access cards that are in each one first.

Check with your city, town or county, a lot of them accept old electronics either for free or for a small fee. For three or four months, in anticipation of the digital changeover, our county had a collection site that accepted TV's and all other electronics for free. I got rid of several old DirecTV tuners that way. Before I got rid of them I took the access cards out and shredded them.

If it can be re-activated, donate it to a Non-profit (salvation army, Goodwill, Church, etc.) and get the tax deduction on your 2009 tax return for fair market value. This will apply also for used clothing, furniture, tools, etc. that can be recycled (reused) through a community organization.

If you trash em, take the drives out if you use a desktop.. makes great MP3 and porn vid back up drives.

i'd ebay them or see if one of your family members needs some directv boxes. They could use those until they get some newer equipment. Some people don't need all the bells and whistles on their boxes, as long as they get tv they don't care.

I wonder what Phineas and Ferb would do with old satellite receivers?

I would have thought that someone would have come up with something really clever to do with them. I pulled the hard drives out of a couple of old HR10-250 units that Directv didn't want back; I pulled out the hard drives and put them in Popcorn Hour units.
