Content is (IMO) the driving force for the sets. If there's a dearth of content, there is no strong need to purchase the set.

I know, it's an early adopter environment, but I don't have the $$$$ this time around for being an early adopter.
 
UHD might breathe more life into 3D.

There is plenty of content since 35MM filmed movies (and TV shows) can be scanned at 4k. The problem is a delivery system...
 
HDMI 2.0 is on the way. PART of the solution. HEVC is another part.
