Where were you 40 years ago?

I gave in and got a VC-II eventually…
After my first no name receiver got hit by lightning(everything was manual with no remote) I got a Uniden with a VC2 .Never bothered sailing the seven seas but I always watched what's his name until he got thrown off a building.

You talking about Green Sheets? I dont remember his name but loved all the equipment he sold!

Yep, Shaun. Also Lolita. First Boresight News (industry news), then Greensheet (the bulk of his C-band TV show where he sold off used sat gear, forget whether he took live bids), then Yellow Rain (or Piss on the VCII), the ending segment about piracy. I sent him a fair amount of gear from upgrading to IR/Ds. To Piscataway, NJ

I believe however it happened, it was a fall from roof of own building, not on a sat job.

Also 40 years ago, Chernobyl. Was helping to plant a test plot of different corn varieties.

I sent him a $1,000 standalone VC-2 for resale. He then declared bankruptcy, and I got nothing. Never forgave him for that. Then he took the dive off the roof. I always wondered if that was an accident or not...

I only sent him sat gear that I'd collected from system upgrades which was even then rapidly obsoleting and didn't have all that much value. Don't think I'd have trusted with something big buck. But tell us more; there must be some more to that story...obviously there was no eBay at the time to put hackable gear on

I'll never tell.

Working at a bank trying to sell satellite systems and stereo equipment through my newly formed business during my off hours to make a decent living ( low level bank staff just get to count large sums of money- they don't get to actually make large sums working ;/)

I was first in Europe in 1990, and there was virtually no sign of any sat dishes. I did see one early apparent retailer for them, though.

True. 1990 is the year satellite TV started becoming a thing in Europe, with Sky Television (Sky one, Sky News, Sky Movies, etc.) in the UK on Astra1A @19.2 East. Entry-level systems (fixed 60cm Ku dish) became affordable (I paid 149 UK pounds for a 60 cm dish and a simple Amstrad receiver in March 1990). German channels also came to Astra, and that market also took off. By 1991 dishes were a more common sight, but only small Ku dishes.
