I used to install DirecTV years ago.

I was wondering if the Phase 3 Triple LNB Dish is still needed for HD programming?

Or has everything gone to the slimlime?

Have they added any HD programming on 101 that can be picked up with the regular 18 inch dish?

Thanks in advance.

In another month or so the Phase-3 will be useless for HD; I think it's when they drop the Mpeg-2 HD signal.

Not sure about that, listening to one of their financial calls they sounded like they weren't in any great rush to do this. The thinking was that the longer it goes the better the chance that the customer would do an upgrade to MPEG4 on their own or cancel service, helping to reduce their costs for having to do free upgrades.

FYI
Any new HD channels they add are only on at the 99 or 103 satellite orbit location, which is only picked up via the Directv Slimline or Older AT9 5lnb Dish

Current HD & Previous older Mpeg2 HD went to Mpeg4 on the 99 & 103 Orbit location
