Will Larger Dish Pick Up More Spot Beams?

Hmmm, what are you trying to pick up FTA with Spot Beams, I would say an op will close this thread shortly.
A fellow who posted a Dish Network question in the Dish forum, asked if he could get the Miami spotbeam, even though he lived a little ways outside of Miami.
He got the bigger dish, got a stronger signal, and was happy.
But then, he had to "move" to Miami to get authorized to receive those signals.
Without the authorization, his receiver would not get the locals at all.
As for out-of-market-locals, that's what spot beams are for.
And you won't be authorized for them.
Also, they are too tightly focused.
Few hundred miles in diameter, I think.
But that was strictly subscription-related.
For FTA, your answer would be: NO

I've always wondered how such small antennas 30,000 miles away can focus signals on a specific region. On a technical standpoint, it really boggles my mind!
