I've got a bunch of channels and the warranty, so my bill would be going up at least $23. Probably gonna ditch an adult channel to bring it back down...

Just did, I am getting Netflix for my movies- got an HD DVD player.

At $9.95 a month for unlimited one at a time rentals of SD and HD DVDs, I cant go wrong.

Don't forget the $4 increase in the warranty for those that have the $2 warranty. It goes from $2 to $6. So I guess some of those that have AEP Platinum will have a $14 increase.
For 622 users, if Dish doesn't waive the DVR fee like they currently do with Platinum, it will be a $20 increase.

I'm also ticked that there is no way to downgrade your programming via the website. Upgrading, sure no problem. Oh you want to downgrade, well we'll need you to 'talk' to one of our CSR's for that.

Actually, no, you don't have to talk to anyone. I did it today. Just call their 800 number. It is all automated.

If you would like to cancel HBO, Press #1.

To confirm you would like to cancel HBO, Press #1.

If you would like to cancel more channels, press #1.

If you would like to cancel Cinemax, Press #1.

To confirm you would like to cancel Cinemax, Press #1.

It was very easy, and I reduced my bill by $20 a month.

The only reason why they would require you to talk to a live person to drop programming packages down is so that they can try to talk you out of it. Maybe they finally gave up on that and realized that did not work but maybe caused them to lose subscribers since it would be a hassle to lower your service down.

No, it's 41% of an activist group that SAY they will do something. By far, most people are not as active or involved as people on this site (as you noted in your "fairness" comment), so our results cannot be extended to the population at large (self-selection). And my guess is, most that SAY they will do something, won't. After all, we have the packages we do because of a reason. Most will likely decide in the end they don't want to give up programming.

With the price increase I was planning on downgrading, but now that MLB is only on D*, I am leaving E*. I have been a top tier subscriber for 8 years and I am now going to D*. I have an installation of D* scheduled this weekend. I will miss some things on E*. It was a tough choice, but many things have been heading in the wrong direction - customer service/billing issues (the Indian call center has been a disaster), more frequent removing of stations when they are up for renewal and lawsuits with TIVO and HBO. The $10 price increase and loss of MLB were the final straws.

You bet I will. I’m dropping as low as I can go for the last of my 6 months comment then going FTA and OTA. BYE BYE to pay TV

After 9 years I had enough of the price increases and channel wars

That is not the point. The thread is about whether you are going to change your plans due to the price increase. The 6th one in a row . We aren't debating whether Dish, Directv and cable is going up - that is a given.

The fact is that for hd customers with AEP it is going up by $10.00 the single largest increase by Dish on one programming pack in the 10 years I have had them. This alone has caused me to down grade and drop all premium movie packs. Dish needs to rethink these yearly increases or drop some of the fees that get triggered once you downgrade from AEP . The dvr fees PER RECEIVER alone will choke you if you have multiple dvrs. The hd enabeling fees PER HD RECEIVER kick in if you try to drop the hd pack.

I think Directv is right to just charge the tech fee for 10.99 if you have an hd receiver. They add the hd stations if you have the equivalent sd channel. This is the way to go if you want to make HD part of the future for all subs. It doesn't make a lot of sense to unbundle hd and charge $20.00 for the pack . What happens when they add some more hd channels like up to 40 ? Do we go up to $40.00 per hd pack on top of the sd pack too? If you buy the sd pack , the hd channels should come in for free. NO extra fees or programming packs.

Dish better think long and hard about the next years increase. If the hd pack goes up anymore in price, then I can see myself dropping these channels entirely due to the price is to high . They have already crossed the line with regards to the premium movie channels. I downgraded from Plat pack to a lower pack with out movies and I have switched to Blockbuster.com for all my movie needs and I can return them to the local store if I want another 3 for free today. This is a good deal for 3 dvds at a time unlimited for $17.99 a month. It sure beats the hell out of paying $40.00 for all the premium movie repeat channels.

I don't understand how everyone is blaming Dish for the increase in AEP pricing. Your package is basically going up $3 + the increases demanded by all the premium channels. It's not like E* is sitting there and saying "let's screw our best customers." But they also can't just eat the high fees that HBO and Showtime are charging this year.

Further, people also say "enough is enough" when Charlie tries to hold the line on major increases for nearly worthless channels (Lifetime, CourTV, etc.), as if somehow Dish is supposed to both pay whatever the cable company owned channels ask of them, but not pass any cost onto the consumer.

You can't have it both ways. Either, you support the fight against extortion or you pay the huge increases for programming and stop complaining.

Long ago I saw that HBO was not worth the money (3 years now) and dropped it. AT180 (now 250) comes with a bunch of movie channels, and I can rent the rest. I could count on one hand the movies on HBO+Showtime I wanted to watch, and NetFlix or rental was cheaper. I didn't think the original programming was worth it to me, so I've been saving $300+ a year.

Yes, I lowered my package. Movies channels totally not worth it. The only thing barely keeping me with Dish is there HD. For what I pay for Broad Band internet, Vonage Phone, and Dish, a digital cable bundle is beginning to look a lot more attractive. A savings of $50 a month by switching over.

Exactly !!!

That's what I did. Bundled my cable HD and broadband internet.

Actually the price for AEP customers is going up $5.00 next month. Also if you have hd pack or were a plat hd customer it is going up another $5.00 on top of that because they have eliminated the $5.00 discount . So Dish is going up a total of $10.00 on their AEP + hd pack customers or what was the plat hd customers. This is the biggest single price increase in one year by Dish on any programming pack.

Also, they are killing the grandfathered $1.99 extended warranty to $5.99 AND raising adult channel prices as well......

My bill is going to be $20 more when this kicks in.....

I guess to save money you can drop the warrenty and only add it when you need it. Dish doesn't care and the csr even told me to do this when I had a problem and drop it once it was fixed. As far as porn is concerned, do what the rest of us do ; use your computer for free porn sites.:up

Wow...you really trust the word of a CSR? That's dangerous business my friend. I bet if you call back the next guy would tell you something different. Unrelated, but I just had a CSR tell me that AEP automatically comes with the multi-sports pack. Is that correct? I'm going to go home and find out.
