Did they announce something more thrilling than software tools to help convince you to put your iPhone down?

Apple makes an enormous deal about WWDC and "media people" really struggle to understand what the hubbub is about.

Mostly what I saw was more compelling reasons people should get an iPhone X.2 (or whatever gets rolled out in the Fall) as Apple seems to be in love with Animojis and the new Memoji variants. Seems I remember Nintendo had Mii avatars to go along with the Wii console when it came out. The Memoji seem to be heavily influenced by those, and also the Samsung variant that get awfully close to Uncanny Valley territory by trying to use Selfie data on the avatar. Thankfully, Apple didn't try crossing that line.

The other "creepiness" was how Apple was getting into the News Curation business. Say what you will about Facebook's trustworthiness in the revelations from the past 18 months, but why should I trust Apple (a computer software company that just happens to design and build the hardware their software runs on) to be any better at determining what News I should get? On the other hand, I suppose it would be refreshing if my next Science article suggested wasn't a Horoscope (thanks, Google!) or some "Aliens have visited in the past; here's proof!" video because I watched the YouTube playback of Monday morning's SES-12 launch (thanks, YouTube! er, Google!)

Sounds like you weren't all that blown away by what's brewing either. As someone who is over the age of 13, I really don't get the long-term utility of a dancing turd. Somehow a happy poo doesn't make me feel better about my situation.

Cutely named APIs have always seemed a little too cookie cutter to me. To be sure they promote a consistent look and feel, but where is the art in that?

What I want out of the next iPhone is band 71. My iPhone 6+ does not even have band 12, and that is a constraint with T-Mobile.

As T-Mobile is rolling out band 71 faster than originally projected, and is going in some large cities like NYC as well as rural, this is important to me. By year’s end, it will be deployed in areas I frequent. Those TV channels have moved or shut down quicker than expected in some areas, and T-Mobile is dumping cash into it.

I’d hate to have to consider an Android phone just for the 600 MHz support. But I’m not sure I can baby this 6+ another year to late 2019.

According to the Keynote, iOS 12 on our iPhone 6 phones should deliver a snappier level of performance, maybe enough to eek another year of use. You did replace the battery under the $30 Battery Replacement Program, right? That made a huge difference in my iPhone 6 day-to-day use.

Battery has been replaced twice, under warranty. I plan to spring for the money for another in a couple of months.

Hopefully, I’ll get the next iPhone and pass my 6+ to my MiL.
