Hi All,

I decided to break out the equipment for the new year and see if I can set it up again. I'm using equipment mentioned above. I am able to hit 121 no problem, nice green bars, but when I turn dish to the 97 or 101 sats I don't get anything but red bars. Any suggestions are most welcomed.

skew ?

From OC (I used Irvine), the skew for
97 = - 28°
101= - 23.4°
121= + 4.8°

edit: oops, I assumed you meant Orange County, California.
If you're in Orange County, New York, ... well... :)

Iceberg - Thanks for moving. ( I have tried posting in FTA forum but get an error message - something about not enough privilages.)

Lak7 - What do you mean by 'hot transponder selected'? This trasnponder issue is confusing to me. How do you select it in the Coolsat. My manual does not explain. Do you know of a good thread for this?

Anole - thanks for the skew. But, if I am only using one LNB on this set up do I still need skew?

For a linear satellite (such as 97W or AMC-4 at 101W), you must skew (or twist) the LNBF depending on where in the arc the satellite is located.

skew ?

From OC (I used Irvine), the skew for
97 = - 28°
101= - 23.4°
121= + 4.8°

From Anole's post above, notice that the skew is very different as you go from 121W to 101W and 97W. You will have to twist your LNBF clockwise (looking from in front of your dish), or toward the east, from where it is when you are locked on 121W.

I don't recall which dish that is you have there... but if it's the wide elliptical dish, it's got skew on the mount.
So, skewing the entire dish is what you want to do.
And the feedhorn matches the dish, so that's another reason.

But, if your dish is round, and not on a skewable mount, then twisting the LNB is the way to go.

Thanks for clearing that up Anole.

Well, here is my set up: ( I am located in Brea, CA 92821 )
1. target sat = 101 AMC 4
2. 36' Worldview Dish with FSS Stacked LNB ( off of an old SuperDish )
3. EL 46.6 / AZ 138.1 / Skew -23.4 ( from 90 I go counter clockwise and end up at about 66.6 degrees for the skew )

I still get all red bars, here are some pics for your reference.

you need to change the info on the menu to
SINGLE
10750 LNB freq

also select a vertical transponder since you are using a bandstacked LNB
for 101W use

12120 V 30000

Thanks Iceberg, but when I changed settings I get no bars at all- see pic.

I don't understand the transponder issue, how this helps you with the green bars or how to properly set it up in the receiver ( manual does not say ). Do you know of a thread for this?

I usually use the "Manual scan" screen or "PID scan" screen after I set up the dish in "Dish settings"

They are on the bottom of the right column of the Installation Menu

I use (Menu) -> Right -> (Up) -> (Up) -> (OK/Enter)
for my most common remote command.

This is the part (using an active transponder [frequency]) that took me the longest to learn in properly operating the Coolsat.
I spend almost all of the time I'm manually aiming a dish with the Manual Scan screen up.

Thanks Meinename,

This trasnponder[frequency] thing is quite interesting in figuring out. But, I think I got it. The funny thing is that I am apparently also hitting sat 103 at the same time and can get channels as well. Will this be an issue?

I don't think that the transponders on 101 and 103 will interfere with each other, but you'll get stronger signals if you can get the aim better. If you're looking for Setanta on 101, that transponder is especially weak. If you're looking for History and Biography, they're not much better. If you're looking for the Portuguese channel, then it doesn't matter. I once got the Portuguese channel when I was aimed almost exactly at 103, it's that strong.

I want to say thank you to all who helped me with this issue. If I run into another issue I will start a new thread in order to to avoid convolution. Thanks.
