I know each city or town has their own Cable Access Channel, but the thought of having a National Public Access Channel where one could submit their own programming to for airing nationwide sounds cool. I wonder if Directv would ever consider this?

Cable companies do it because they are under contract to offer it. D* has no such contract obligation and unless you can show them how it would be profitable I'm sure they won't waste bandwidth on a freebie.

There was at one time a free-to-air channel (UonTV) that attempted this. They went under shortly after converting 90% of their spots to infomercials.

In the age of You Tube, why?

One National channel in HD for a price, why not? Oh, local considerations. Unfortunately, our local does not do HD, due to cost.
