Lets just hope Vurbano doesnt see this post and start another my area rains more then your area again.

Speaking on behalf of all South Carolinians, I can say without hesitation or reservation that Texas has stolen all of our rain this spring/summer. So if rad says he has rain fade, I would believe it. Since we haven't had much if any rain for months, I haven't had to deal with rain fade. But seeing as how central texas has had three+ years' worth of rain in the last 4-6 months, it is explainable/understandable. rad - how about send the rain our way and let us deal with the rain fade for a few weeks... :p

I lived in Mobile, Al most of my life, 63" a year avg with a superdish and did fine.

Moved to Charleston which is mid 50's, even better. Moving to Vurbano's neck of the woods in Jan, only 44"'s. Who is he kidding :p

I knew we got alot of rain, but I didn't know it was 43 inches worth.

Hey people, the gist of my post was to knock D*'s claim of 100 HD channels this year. You can nitpick my personal opinion of how many channels I like as much as you want, but fact is 17 is a lot less exclusive channels than 100 total channels makes it sound like. If 50% of that 100 wasn't all sports subscription channels and RSNs, then that 17 number would be a lot bigger. I'm not saying those sports channels don't count as HD but when the majority of the subscriber base only accesses one or two of the RSNs, they shouldn't be part of a total HD count. Much like E* does by not including RSNs in their 40 channel count. But of course by D* touting 100 compared to E*'s 40 it looks like you're getting 60 new exclusive channels, until you look at the actual list of course.

We Surrender!!

Okay, on behalf of all Directv Subscribers, I would like to concede the following points:

1. Charlie is, if not the one true God, at very least the earthly manifestation of the Norse god Thor.

2. Voom has the most compelling content since the Bible and Shakespeare's Folios.

3. Sports make for lousy tv.

4. I was drunk when I ordered Directv, and have regreetted it for it the last 10 years.

5. Satellites located at 101 Degrees cause impotence. Owning a R15 makes it irrevirsible.

6. My wife left me for a Dishplayer.

Now, can We PLEASE have this thread back so I can get legitimate updates from Scobuck and dream of my soon to be here HD goodies? Not that they'll be as good as E*'s, of course.

We knew there had to be a good reason. :)

I'm sorry, but I must be suffering from Craninal-Rectal Inversion because I don't recall, remember, or know of D* EVER SAYING they were going to offer 100 exclusive new channels.

I'm surprised you didn't get dizzy putting that much spin on this subject. :p

Exclusivity was never the point...just sheer volume of HD offerings. If you want to count the E* RSN-HD offerings, then go right ahead...really...I will be happy to wait...done yet? What did you find? Is it really worth "spinning" the fact that for whatever brief period of time beginning on or about 9/12/07, D* will be the HD leader. I hope that sometime in the near future E* overtakes D*, so that will spur D* to regain the lead and so on ad infinitum. This is good news no matter what side of the sky you are looking to. Just watch out for the bird at 101...I heard some nasty rumors about that one... ;)

Other issue is, many take it like D* said they'd have 100 MORE than other providers, all they said is CAPACITY for 100.

Everyone should get over it. D* will most likely end the year with a FEW more than E*. I think both will have great HD, and D* has another sat going up, E* has two.

We should all get over the channel pissing contest and BE GLAD WE DONT HAVE CABLE.

I agree with Scobuck, that is one damn funny post. Of course Dopey had a couple of funny posts too, he just didn't mean to.
Oh, and I am not certain, but fact of the matter is I don't think anyone from the D* side of things goes into the E* threads and tells them how bad E* is, not even too much about the 24/7 Football which is really quite humorous. No it's pretty much limited to the E* boys coming over here to try an rain on our parade.

Given the fact that E* has had two system wide outages in the past week, it's no wonder that they're all over here posting...especially since the D* subs still have TV to watch. :D
I must Have missed those outages. I've not had a single one on E* Nor have I had one with Directv in the past year. Whats with the outages? Must only be in certain areas. Or no one knows how to reset a receiver.

Yet another example of a person who has nothing better to do than to put useless information in a thread to incite people. Since you have uninterrupted service as you claim, why aren't you watching satellite programming instead of trying to stir the pot here?

Thats how you have to be ,Open minded. But I do agree with the fact that a lot of D* customers were not expecting sports packages to be over 50% of D* Claimed 100 HD channels.Thats where trouble starts,To be able to get all this HD the cost will be huge. $9.99 is getting you around 23 HD channels. Not even close to 100. The rest are in packages like Starz, HBO,NFL pack RSN's, MLB pack. All this is at additional cost. This is why I think the price is not going up this year for HD. But once they start getting a bigger line up by the end of 08,You can almost bet that price is going up. I've been a customer of D* for a long time,I know what I see,And I can admit it.

Other issue is, many take it like D* said they'd have 100 MORE than other providers, all they said is CAPACITY for 100.
The claim was originally for the capacity of more than 150 national HD channels and three times more capacity than any competitor back when they expected to have both D10 and D11 up by now.

The current claim of "up to" 100 national HD channels is not about capacity (and flagrantly ignores it); they are about D* style national HD "channels".

Capacity when D10 comes on line should be half of the projected capacity. If the total capacity is "more than 150", the D10 capacity alone is obviously "more than 75".

How they use their capacity is probably immaterial.

What they call a "channel" versus the conventional meaning of the word is absolutely debatable.

For the benefit of those who would reply, I have thoughtfully broken out each idea in its own paragraph for ease in quoting.
