Greetings and welcome to today SatelliteGuys recap of The Dish Network Retailer Chat.

Reports posted to this recap will be delayed by about 10 - 15 minutes so that I may type in things of interest and capture screen shots. :)

Here we go!

Jim and Erik welcome us to todays show. Erik tells us that they have a lot to cover today.

They say they will have some talks on HD programming and new local programming, marketing, international sales news, commercial sales news, and my favorite part of the show Tech News with Leslie Harper.

They start talking about the Team Summit which is coming next year to Nashville. May 15 - 18 at the Opreyland Hotel.

They then show a video about Team Summit

I hope they announce more hd pogramming coming but with at&t trying to acquire dish we'll probably have to wait awhile for new hd programming.

Thanks Scott for covering the dish retail chat and keeping us up to date on everything.

Jim calls the competitions DVR's "kind of Pathetic."

Jim also says "we blow Tivo away as well"

New marketing called "Never Miss" which promoted DVR to never miss your favorite programs, it even says in the ad that "It's better then Tivo".

They continue talking of why Dish Networks DVR's are better then their competition.

They have spent a lot of time talking about this "Never Miss" campaign.

They then show the new DishHD logo, Dish DVR logo and the Dish Record Button

Now lets talk about DirecTV and Dish Network.

They are mad that DirecTV is dogging Dish in their TV ads, so dish is launching their own campaign against DirecTV.

Dish is going to start talking about their "edge" against DirecTV. They want retailers to tell customers why Dish is better.

Jim says there will be additional HD launched in the future and that they are working to reclaim bandwidth so they can add more HD channels.

Good! I'm glad they are MAD!!! But, let's see if Actions truly speak louder than Words.

Yea, I guess you'd call that "in the future" line "the D* approach".

The fact they needed to take down an HDPPV in order to add TBS-HD should have been a dead giveaway that Dish is hurting for bandwidth. They could probably reclaim additional bandwidth if they turned some of the currently-MPEG2HD stations into MPEG4 but then those without MPEG4 receivers wouldn't be able to receive them and that could have adverse revenue/subscrber number effects.

=NLK=

Dish just threw us an hd bone. Now we have to start guessing what "future" means in dish terms. I see a glimmer of hope.:)Reclaiming bandwith??? digi--you got a comment on this one?

Good! I'm glad they are MAD!!! But, let's see if Actions truly speak louder than Words.

thats what I am thinking, people need to remember this stuff isnt done over the period of 4 weeks, it could be 4-6 months before we see HD, but i am willing to wait it out as long as they go back to full HD once they get their new sat up, and add a couple more channels.

Dish is going to start talking about their "edge" against DirecTV.

Everytime I hear edge I think of the Directv CE program.

Also, I didnt know there was bandwith that needed to be recaim. They have the space on 129 and 61.5 now. They could have launched 2 channels that would have stoped alot of the im going to directv moves. SCIFI and USAHD would have been it!

Now they continue by showing a new commercial advertising over 70 national HD channels and free HD DVR (Hey guys... if RSN's are only gametime and are only available in the RSN's market or with a sports ticket package are the REALLY national HD channels? If you advertise 70 National HD channels, then I should be able to watch 70 HD channels.)

JIm goes on to make fun of people who buy HDTV's and are thinking they have HD programming when they dont.

Next he goes in to promote the Sharp TV deal. (They dont get that Dealers dont make a cent off of these TV so they could care less about this promotion)

They talk about how they have new Big10 ads available. These promote Big 10 basketball and show an ad.

They then show new NFL Network ads with Reggie Bush.

They then go and talk about some new international sales stuff including a lot of economics.
