Dish Network Retailer Chat Recap - October 24, 2007

"Jim says there will be additional HD launched in the future and that they are working to reclaim bandwidth so they can add more HD channels."

Ahaa! So they don't have any more bandwidth and that is why they are so quiet. It seems people have given E* credit for more capacity than they actually have.

Given the delays on satellite launches I can see this not getting better until next Spring.

Those sports subscriptions sure look tempting. Where's the baseball and football package though?

Sorry Charlie, but I strongly believe you've lost the ability to even compete with D*.

1) Shouldn't have let Baseball go
2) DVR fee should be for the household, not per box
3) Combine the Voom channels to reduce duplicate programming and add some more "real" HD channels.
4) A DVR is a DVR. Who's DVR is best is VERY subjective. The HR20 is a very stable box and has come a long way since the CNET ratings. (DOD, MPEG4 HD)

-snip-
Also, I didnt know there was bandwith that needed to be recaim. They have the space on 129 and 61.5 now. They could have launched 2 channels that would have stoped alot of the im going to directv moves. SCIFI and USAHD would have been it!

Sure, they COULD have, but why bother? They are obviously convinced that few if any E* subscribers will leave for D*. By the time they find out they're wrong it will most likely be too late and ATT will have even more reason to consider buying D* instead.

=NLK=

Still nothing new to share (or worth Sharing)

BTW I just submitted the question to the chat, I wonder if they will answer it... He is a copy...

You have decided that retailers should stop selling legal free to air equipment instead of fixing your security problems. My question is when is Dish going to bite the bullet and fix their security problems instead of taking food off the table of dealers who sell legal free to air equipment?

Incorrect. They have available bandwidth now.

At least it is some kind of response from dish. Now it is up to them to follow through.

Dish is really missing the point here. There is plenty of bandwith available but they act like they do not have any. This means that they do not want to do anything until this probable sell goes through or they are just lazy...

Neither of which carries more than a few hours per week of HD content.

It's not how many hours of HD they're carrying, it's which shows they're showing in HD. And from what I've heard, it seems like USA's and SciFi's first-run series are in HD, like Stargate Atlantis. I don't care if the whole, or half, or even a quarter of their schedules are in HD, if their first-run series are in HD, then I want the damn channels already. Especially by the time BSG Razor rolls around.

They are probably playing us like fools. Just like the " leader" in hd advertising.

Exactly! :)
