Updated feature requests for receivers (2008)

I want some of these others too but some extra ones
1. A built in Wireless adaptor, like games consoles, homeplug doesnt always work.
2. Full HDMI support so we can get rid of the Optical Cable for Digital sound.
3. Multiple Faceplates, so the colour can match my other equipment (black/Silver mainly)

  • Ability to swap between 3 tuners (2 Sat and OTA).
  • Ability to see all 3 screens at once (Not sure of orientation though). Maybe 4 blocker with one screen having dish logo.
  • When you pause something that is live and swap to another tuner, I want the other show to stay paused when I switch back. Sometimes I want to watch 2 live games at once and go back and forth at commercials.
  • Second OTA tuner (with only one OTA input)
  • Wireless - one of my 622's DishComm was working just plugged into wall with built-in homeplug, but stopped working after last software upgrade. I don't have room to put a homeplug device behind it. (without wires everywhere)
  • Others mentioned here too

Geez, I want some of the basic functionally I had with what I had with TW.

1. A clock on the front of the receiver.
2. When I hit "record", I want the DVR to record everything that has been on that channel since I changed to it. For example, we're 20 minutes into Lost and my kid comes to me to ask a homework question. I help him and now it's 40 minutes into the show. On my old TW Explorer 8300, if I hit "record", all of the episode would be recorded so I could go see the 20 minutes I missed.

You can record this way today, can't you? You just need to rewind to whereever you'd like it to start (and then hit record), if I'm not mistaken.

2) Dish's DVRs can do this. They just don't do it by default.... When you hit Record on a show in progress, make sure to hit the Options button and specify to record from the beginning (as long as it's been on that channel since the start of the show). You say "since I changed to it" and I'm not sure if Dish does that though. It seems to recognize the start/end of programs and restricts it to that. You can *rewind* as far back as possible (what's in the buffer) and then hit Record.

Remove the timeline banner from the screen after I hit pause. It's often blocking something I want to see or read.

One way around this is to hit the FF or RWD button and it moves at 1/15th speed but clears the bottom of the screen.

This actually works, at least on a 622. For a while, it would only work if you had the PIP window opened - you could pause one and swap the main window and the PIP window and it would stay paused, but I think they fixed it. If you press Pause and then Swap, it'll jump to the other tuner and leave the first tuner on pause. If you press Swap again, it'll switch back to the first tuner where you left off.

NO! I do not want this at all. If I want a clock I will buy a clock, don't want the distraction
I agree with this. I like the fact the receiver doesn't have all this annoying stuff on the front of it that I just have to cover up when I want to watch something in the dark.

I just ran into this one last night. When reviewing the recording schedule dedicate a single button click to skip. It currently takes too many clicks to do this.

My situation is that Mythbusters which is set to record New programs suddenly flooded my schedule with a dozen items on the same day. Looking at the list it was obvious that there was no programming information so the DVR erred on the side of caution and treated the episodes as "new" so I wouldn't miss anything. It would be a nice option to mark the timer not to do this for frequently repeated programs. (Treating no info as "new".)

1. A clock on the front of the receiver.

When we switched to DISH Network 3 years ago, I was driving myself crazy because I kept looking for the clock on the front of the receiver. (Our old digital cable receiver had one.) My wife said the same thing. I solved that problem with a $6 alarm clock from Wal-Mart. They have enough of a selection that you can even choose which color digital display you want.

What software version do you have because it didn't work for me when I tried this past weekend.

My System Info says L448. Is that the value you're looking for? Does using the PIP work? I believe using the PIP worked from the start and several months ago, using the Swap button (make sure you're not using the Recall button) without the PIP started working.

I'd love to have the ability to play programs on a second box which were recorded on the first box. The connection could be via wireless IP or using the Ethernet port. The second box could be a full fledged receiver or just a playback box (i.e. Sling concept). Then you could easily have a single 622 / 722 "power" a whole house full of HD TVs. Your only limitation would be the tuners in the box. As more homes get wired up, 100 MB ethernet becomes ubiquitous and has plenty of bandwidth for HD video at MPEG-4.

A master DVR server with multiple SAT and ATO tuners and slave boxes setup at each tv would be a great idea if they could make it cost effective. It'd be even better if they could do it with a wireless LAN.

For now, I have my 4 receivers wired into my whole house audio/component video switching/IR system. I can watch any on my receivers in any room with a TV (even in HD!).

1. separate format settings for HD and SD outputs. Currently, if you use both at the same time, a 16x9 on TV1 and 4x3 on TV2 for example, one is always either stretched or squished if using single mode.

2. interpolation code to detect and get rid of channel bug logos.

3. add the ability to control a motor, blindscan, and integrate FTA channels into the guide.

4. spin down the hard drive during inactivity.

5. easier way to turn captions on and off.
