We are beginning to think about replacing one of our older RP HDTV sets with probably an LCD. I want to know why I keep seeing them hung so high up. It would seem to me they should be hung with the center eye level from a seated position but I keep seeing them hung much higher. Perhaps eye level from a standing position or higher. Is there something I am missing on the proper placement of LCDs and Plasmas?

If you get an LCD and hang it higher, make sure you get a tilt mount. Plasma are a lot better off center than an LCD. I have my LCD hung a little higher than eye level but have it on a tilt/swivel mount. I see LCD hung higher on a flat mount all of the time and never understand why.
I have the same for mine. Slightly higher than standing eye level and tilted downward.
The main reason I did mine this way was I did not want anything that close to the wall lower than standing eye level. I have nothing under my TV so I thought it would look out of place. If you do put a equipment rack or something under the tv it should look ok lower.
I have one hung fairly high in a bedroom. The reason is that it is more comfortable when lying down. If it is on the wall toward your feet, you don't have to bend your neck as far. If it is on the side, it is easier to look over your partner.
I second the need tor a tilt mount in these applications.
In a living room, I would probebly go lower, unless I needed to accomodate two rows of seating.

The bedroom I can understand higher and when we replace that one it will be. The family room though I thought should be lower.

I am vertically challenged also
. Its not as bad as you may think. While relaxing and kicking your feet up I find it perfect. My wife who is 5' 1" is actually the one who eyeballed it when I hung it.
