I recently got a real good deal on a 6 foot C/Ku dish from Sadoun's eBay store. I already have dishes set up for Ku so this will be strictly for C-Band. I've never played with C-Band before so this is kind of exciting. I need a little help picking a LNBF. My current system is a dual room setup. All my LNBF's are dual output going to separate switches and feeding one TV in the living room and one in my den. Will the C-Band LNBF work the same way? I'm not seeing many dual output setups offered so it got me wondering. I suppose I could live with a single output if need be. I see that Sadoun has a deal on an eagle aspen and SatelliteAV has a GeoSat but they are both single's.

I'm real excited about getting this set up and exploring this new band for FTA signals. I'm hoping that I can find some NFL backhauls to view when the season starts. If someone knows a good place to look for something like that please send me a PM.

I plan on as Iceberg calls it “ghetto moving” this for a while until I figure out what's up there. I can always think about motorizing later. Anyone using the Moteck H180 Motor with success?

Good luck with it and be sure to keep us advised and with pics. You can't go wrong with C band.:)

Did you get the model with the ring base? I had mine simply bolted to a heavy duty pallet and weighted down. I'm still thinking about putting it back up.
 
dual output C-band LNBF

Here is a recent discussion thread, concerning the same question of what LNBf to use.

I'll just add this:

- The commercial feedhorns that'll take two C-band LNBs are around $70 (plus the two LNBs).
- the off-shore solutions don't seem like workable alternatives.
- I PM'd Brian at SatAV about his LNBf, and didn't get a reply; it would have been the best choice.
- The Eagle/Aspen appears the low cost leader, if you can deal with the bandstacked matter.

Is there a FAQ or something that discusses the "bandstacked matter"? I'm not sure what that means.

I'm going to call SatAV and see if they plan on getting any of the duals back in stock. I'm not in a huge hurry.

unless you want it fixed at a satellite that has both polarities, I've learned most C-Band satellites seem to use one polarity. Or you could just hook it up to one receiver. If you do go with a dual, the Satav one works great. Have that on my "fixed" dish at G4

Depending on your location ghetto moving can be great. Where I am I can go from IA8 to AMC1 with no change in elevation (IA6 is my true south). If you do ghetto move, couple things to note
-its prime focus so 45 degrees IS 45 degrees look angle
-If you ghetto move it, on the elevation arm get your true south locked in and I scratched a line so I know that's as high as the dish needs to go. With no actual elevation markings you're shooting in the dark. I also went to my far western satellite and made a mark there so I know it doesnt go any lower. Also have one for a couple other popular satellites (IA13 for example) so its easy aiming of the dish :)

I'd do some research before buying one of those. Some people have had serious issues with those motors breaking half into and their dish falling to the ground. I believe there are accounts of that happening in Sadouns own forums. It seems these motors are made of something similar to "pot" metal and it's not very strong. I think that's why they're clearing them out at reduced prices and now offer a polar mount for this dish.

Now that you mention it I remember that. Too bad, it seemed like a nice simple solution. I wonder if Sadoun sells the polar mount separately.

We are considering reordering the C2 LNBF, but it was not a big seller and we are hesitant to hold stock on an item with such a limited sales record. We are checking with the manufacturer to see if they would accept a smaller order.
So there you have it. It wasn't selling. I wonder how many satelliteguys want one? I'm not sure what Brian's minimum order is from the manufacturer but if we commit to several it might help out. I'd buy two of them for myself. Anyone else? I can make a list and send it to Brian.

Yet another reason why I like to use numbers. 99W will always be 99W. I don't need a secret decoder ring for that. But maybe one day I'll catch on to the name game.

Hmmm... no takers.:confused: I guess Brian is right. Dual output C-Band LNBF's are not a popular item. I think I'll get a single for now so I can explore. Since nobody was able to explain what a "stacked" LNB is I think I'll stay away from that.

There is plenty of info on stacked lnbs out there. I've run into several posts about them. Basically, your receiver needs to support them. They use only one polarity, so you don't have to worry about conflicts between receivers wanting channels for the different polarities. Instead of sending 1/2 the channels down as vertical and 1/2 as horizontal, they are all one polarity, but the 2nd half are at a higher frequency (or something like that!)

I stumbled on this thread and it made me reconsider the stacked LNB from Sadoun.

I'm going to check to see if my receiver will support the 5150/5750 LO Frequency when I get home tonight.
 
Bandstacked LNBs are great because there's no polarity switching involved. Both polarities are sent down the single coax cable at the same time. Just make sure your cable (and any device installed in your signal path) will support at least 2.2 ghz, and you'll be fine. Stacked LNBs put the horizontal transponders at a higher frequency above the verticals and send everything at the same time. Its almost as good as having two LNBs, one for horizontal and one for vertical, on an orthomode feedhorn. A blind scan receiver is recommended so that you can find the horizontal transponders (they'll be at different, higher frequencies than they're supposed to be).
