The big thing I wanna see out of this new sat is hd lils, discovery green, and all the HBO's in HD. HD RSN's are good too.
this is a dbstalk guess list:
9 Legacy transition
8 DNS (4 East, 4 West)
1 Movie's Now
6 PPV moving from D10
2 new HD (Fox News, ABC Family)
1 old HD (toondhd?)
13 RSN's going from part-time to full-time
40 total
As far as total count goes, using Directs criteria, that would mean 16 new HD stations to add to the total (1 movie, 2 new HD, and 13 RSNs). Direct can now claim 101 stations for next week, if in fact they do add these exact channels next week (1 more than Dish's claim). And Dish counts their part time RSNs while Direct does not.this is a dbstalk guess list:

I agree. Just keep in mind that Dish already counts these as part of their total and Direct does not.Color me underwhelmed. E* HD premiums adds look better than 13 full time RSNs.

For this instance I would agree with you and Vampz... . Count is irrelevant in this case, I would rather see new channels.Yeah I know. So D* will be able to increase their count but not actually give us new channels. Gosh I sound like Vampz. <shudder>

well i would think that with this new sat D would also take care of the premiums in HD,
I am not complaining, this is just a question for clarity. Does Direct use 5 channels per transponder? I thought it was more like 3 or 4 per???I'll repost here something I posted at the other site that addresses this point.
If one assumes there are 70 HD channels that can be put on D11 (14 transponders with 5 channels each) they would've already used 40 of that 70 and only added two non RSN national HD channels.
If you look a smiddy's list of available HD channels (excluding Voom because I don't think D* will ever carry them) there are 25 available. Only two of those (ABC Family and Fox News) are in the initial list that P Smith gave us. So the remaining 23 would fill up 30 of the remaining spots.
We know that more HD channels are on the way. ESPNU and eight Showtime channels are coming in August. Encore isn't on Smiddy's list but it is suppose to be available soon. Chiller HD is coming later this year too. That's at least 11 more coming that I know about.
11 + 23 is greater than 30. There are some channels that won't make the cut. I'd rather see D* drop some of the HD PPVs and not convert so many part time RSNs to full time and give us more of the national HD channels instead.
For reference here is the Smiddy list I refered too.

I thought it was 5 too. Isnt it 38 total per TP divided by 5? 7.6 is good and much better what dish is offering with 7 at 43 or so.
