"...Galaxy 23 which is 18 degrees and 8 satellite slots off from AMC-1"
Maybe they forgot to include the local magnetic error when using a compass?
They certainly didn't confirm your dish was on the right bird!

Well, I'm sure glad this is working out well.
I didn't think there should be any problem getting the signal on that dish. - :up
Still may get one for myself.

edit: snap a couple of pictures. We're always a sucker for a nice dish. ;)

I sure hope you haven't paid the so called dish installers......if you have I'd sure be asking for a refund!

Any update on your install? How did the re-aim go? Deutsche Welle service coming in with good Signal Quality?

Could you compare the Chaparral 17 MicroPak LNBF with the GEOSATpro C1 and provide a Signal Quality comparison?

Would enjoy seeing any photos of your install!

Interesting news --- we were still unable to get a strong enough signal to lock on to AMC-1. There were strong signal readings off a free-to-air blind search receiver --- but quality readings were low --- and none of the frequencies available on AMC-1 would lock --- however, we swung this dish way over to IS-9 (58 degrees) and found a good strong signal and all available frequencies locking in. Our problem is solved; IS-9 is the Latin-America and South America feed for Deutsche Welle - which is the channel we require - and except for the two hours of Spanish programming, there are no other differences in the programming. Still, it's disappointing that AMC-1 just won't work for us.

Any updates?

There isn't any reason why other birds would lock, but AMC1 will not if the skew was properly set.

Did you adjust the LNBF skew specifically for AMC1. As LAK7 pointed out, AMC1 skew adjustment is quite different that the neighboring birds.

I still believe that this issue is install related.

We would love to hear what your installers said when you told them that the dish had been aimed at the wrong bird......

If it's a polar mount dish, but he has it FIXED, perhaps they didn't set the DECLINATION for his area? So, when he swings it to either end of the arc, it can find those sats, but can't track the middle sats. Plus, 1/2 to 1/3 of an inch off of being a perfect parabola, is a big difference in my opinion. It can't be performing it's best that way.
