Anyone ever had a problem with sa.exe from the moonglow.net website being detected as a virus?

I downloaded the software and per the readme.txt decided I would play around with it for a bit while I am waiting for my BLSA to arrive and AVG anti-virus detected it as an Obfuskate virus. I sent it off to AVG for analysis, but won't hear back from them for a while (2-3 days) probably.
I have/did/do, and haven't gotten it to work yet.....?

For continue discussing the program ( by any common sense and IT rules ) you must post here:
- version (usually Help or About or Properties will help )
- module size (bytes)
- date/time of creation/mod.

Lets add meaning to your concerns.

That sounds reasonable enough. I'm not currently hooked to an lnb, as I've moved on to something else. But, when I was playing with it, it would find PID's, in that part of it. But, it would not recognize the Spectrum Analyzer, or at least as far as I can tell. I went so far as to remove the AVG software from my computer and it still didn't show any Spectrum Analyzer. I give up and moved on, with plans to come back later. Right now is not that later.... but Thanks anyway.
Maybe Fred will come back with something to incite me to make this later happen now?

I'm still curious - what version of SA.EXE you're running ?

The readme says it is still Version 1.1.

I got a response from the designer/developer this morning and he says that several anti-virus programs have found it a false positive.
The download file does NOT have a virus in it. Quite a few people have reported this same problem. I verified the download file again just to be sure. Your virus scanner is reporting a false positive. What likely happenned is that the virus scanner trashed the install in an attempt to "help". Disable the virus scanner, redownload and reinstall the software, try running sa.exe, and if everything is working OK then reenable the virus scanner. Make sure rsxnt.dll is present in the same directory as sa.exe. Everybody who has had this problem has reported success with this method.

Unfortuantely, to fix the false positive would require porting the source code to a modern compiler (I developed it with RSXNTDJ a looooong time ago). That's a big undertaking that I don't have time for at the moment, but maybe this winter.
From what he wrote, there is a possibility that we might have a newer version this winter. :)

That's good news - I did ask Fred more then year ago to add some features in it or make it open source, but
Unfortunately due to NDA's and some other complications I cannot release
any meaningful part of the SA code.

The BLSA project is now over eight years old, and has been three years
since there was significant activity on the project. I don't think
there is sufficient interest in the community to justify a major effort
on the software. Anyone is welcome to develop their own software,
that's why I posted the serial protocol.

I got SA.EXE v1.1 from Hans van Oostrom site.

mine in Properties says:
Folder = sa_1.1
Size = 135 KB (138.651 bytes)
Size on disk = 328 KB (335.872 bytes)
Created = Saturday, July 26 2008, 12:37:50 PM

in readme it says:
version = 1.1, June 21, 2003

The part that worked for me, came from the SE_17.3 Install

While I am re-doing this satellite scanning computer, what "GOOD" "FREE" anti-virus/spyware combo program do you recommend besides AVG Free that will not give a false positive on the sa.exe?

The computer is doing the Windows Update thing right now and I'll be ready to try again after that. :)

Well, my SA.EXE have different size:
size:183 KB (187,904 bytes) [!]
on disk:184 KB (188,416 bytes)

I just re-installed on the new computer.

Mine is the same as yours.

The difference is that Al probably has his installed on a Fat32 partition. The size will vary using Fat32.

Everything works fine on the new machine.

When my other machine decided to fall apart yesterday I spent a half a day trying to fix it and then just went down to my local vendor and bought a used P4 3.2 Ghz HP Workstation for $136.00. I would have spent that much on parts trying to salvage the old P4 1.8Ghz machine.

This one is going to make a great scanning machine. :)

Can't wait to get the BLSA. I'll install the TT S2-3200 later today or tomorrow morning.

Now I'll really be able to check what kind of signal I find with the BLSA and check it with the TT S2-3200 and DVBViewer.

This machine should play any channel I find without crashing at least for a short period of time. It's not as fast as my TV machine, but still pretty fast for an older machine.

A Grundig Yacht Boy 400 is another good SW radio with SSB that works well. I recommend getting one with SSB as it's easy to miss the signal on some weaker signals when listening on AM...the hetrodyne tone on SSB is easier to hear.

I dunno if it's been mentioned but it isn't necessary to install the drivers for the Broadlogic card just for BLSA operation. All the card is doing is getting power from the PCI bus to operate the tuner and make it functional.

Hey, that's a pretty reasonably priced radio. :)

I'll have to see what my buddy comes up with. His old ones might not even work anymore. He's supposed to let me know soon.

If his don't turn out, maybe I'll get one of those.

Really!! I didn't know that. I guess all you need the drivers for is to use it for viewing signals with it's native software.

I think the TT S2-3200 and DVBViewer will be more reliable for viewing what I find, especially S2 feeds. :eek:

Thanks!

Absolutely it will be more reliable since BroadLogic cards are limited on the number of PIDS they can process at once. But even before the BLSA a group of us (Photoman and some others that come to SatelliteGuys were in that group) were using the BroadLogic cards as satellite receivers with Hans van Oostrom's software...this was before other PCI cards such as the Twinhan were on the market. I saw my first 4:2:2 and my first HD signal with one.

I remember picking up used BroadLogic cards for 8 bucks each...then when the demand went up the price skyrocked up to around 75 bucks each.

Well, some of you are old-timers at chasing satellite signals. :cool:

I am looking forward to having lots of fun once I get all my equipment here and all set up.

Then all I have to do is learn how to use all of it. :yikes:

My buddy just got back to me with a radio that works.

Kenwood R600 with SSB.

The signal meter quit working on his Realistic DX-400 so that's out for this job.

Do you guys think the Kenwood R600 will do this job adequately?
