HR2x / R22 Receiver Freeze / Reboot Issues (Again)

I guess I spoke too soon as well:

HR21-100

7AM freeze & manual reset. (No new software)
4PM Auto reset by DTV (No new software)
7PM prime-time (New software download 0290)

I hope it's a good national release.

Mine downloaded, rebooted, and now when it comes back up the screen just flashes and the Res lights on the front of the machine just flicker. Two reboots have not resolved the issue... same thing each time. Anyone the same?

If you're using HDMI connection you might want to disconnect that and reboot the box and then connect it back after the reboot. 290 added 1080p support via HDMI and maybe the handshake between the box and your TV isn't working and causing your problem.

Ok.. my second post in this thread. After turning on the TV this afternoon and having to force a manual reboot, I am now on my second auto reboot today. That's 3 total.

However, this one is downloading the new software. This oughta be it, finally.

Received the update - but lost all To Do and Prioritizer Items!!!

Anyone else see this happen? All of our to do list and Prioritizer items are gone - have rebooted 2 times since the update but nothing comes back. Tried calling DirecTV but was on hold for over 45 minutes and will just call later.

IIRC some people might see this due to the guide data being flushed with the 290 software update. Since D* is busy I'd say to just give it some time and see if it recovers.

O.K.

The whole process took 20 minutes and the latest software update message was the following:

1080p HD: Movies in 1080p are coming soon and now your receiver can support them.

Improved search: You can use the number keys on your remote like a cell phone to quickly enter letters when searching.

Deeper Cast Information: Program descriptions now show more actors and searching by actor is enhanced with a longer list.

I'm pretty annoyed. My HR21 decided to not reboot, it just shut off.

This morning at some point. So, I missed the UEFA match this afternoon that I came home early from work to watch. Fantastic!

So yours didn't tell you your services were unauthorized?
You did not have all channels blocked, saying call CSR?
No locals showed up?
Call center wait 30+ minutes?
Google search to find reset services.. 3 minute wait... all seems okay now?!

What a joke for all 4 of my STBs. Reminds me of my Comcast service!!!

To be fair, this is very unusual. From my two years with DirecTV service, this is only the second time something like this has happened.

Also, both times were this month, hopefully this software change will prevent it from happening again.

That said, I don't like it either :(

No, my services all came back as normal including the locals. My saved stuff wasn't touched either. I've heard many people received this message as the call center is now swamped with angry callers.

What's a reset services? Can't you do that from within your MyDirecTv.com account online?

A statement from DirecTV (nothing new):

DIRECTV: Need help with your DIRECTV Plus® HD DVR receiver?

October 21, 2008
We experienced a temporary transmission glitch with our equipment. If your HD DVR receiver (HR20/HR21/HR22/R22) is not responding to your remote control or front panel commands, you can resolve this issue by pressing the red "Reset" button located inside the small door on the front right corner of your receiver or you can unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet and wait 60 seconds prior to plugging it back into the outlet. Please allow about 15 minutes for your receiver to complete the resetting process. Once completed, your picture will return automatically. Unfortunately, any show you may have scheduled to record earlier today will not be available on your DVR.

Please note, DIRECTV is automatically resetting your HD DVR or DVR receiver remotely throughout the evening to resolve this issue for you. You may experience a temporary interruption to your TV viewing or recording during that time.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. Our promise is to provide you with the best television experience, and to resolve any issues that might arise as quickly as possible. If you have any further concerns, please do not hesitate in contacting us at 800-347-3288.

Like most, I'm getting a little sick and tired of this. My HR-20 re-booted at least three times that I know of, and now the resolution on the box is stuck at 480 and I can't get it to change. I'm not about to try and reboot this again myself because I'm in the middle of recording shows at the moment -- and most of my upcoming shows to be programmed are not showing up. It shows that I did receive the new software upgrade but no less than six times this month my box has rebooted. I just wish that D* would get their act together. I've been a customer for over 10 years, haven't recieved any sort of loyalty incentive and I'm having serious thoughts of switching to cable! Sorry for my venting.

I think the reason it was started at 7:45 was to try to prevent the issue from affecting prime time.

If the receivers continued to lockup at 8pm, 9pm, etc, it just makes matters worse.

I don't know the nature of the reason for the lockup issues, but I've had DirecTV 2 years, and only had lockup problems like this on two days.

Two days out of 700+ are hardly cause for lawsuits.

If you're using HDMI connection you might want to disconnect that and reboot the box and then connect it back after the reboot. 290 added 1080p support via HDMI and maybe the handshake between the box and your TV isn't working and causing your problem.

That sounds about right. That's exactly the sort of behavior I was trying to describe. For whatever reason the third reset got it back. Thanks!
