sound dropping for a second?

This likely is the same problem that I reported in much detail here. Same Raleigh/Durham locals. I'm surprised that Dish went to the expense of replacing my receiver a couple of days ago. Apparently the software problem has not filtered down to the tech support staff.

I haven't tried Fox to see if the problem is there. Haven't watched Simpsons for a while. Maybe I'll do that to at least add a laugh or two.

I live in SF Bay area and ever since I switched from Comcast to Dish HD Gold approx two months ago I have been having audio problems with local FOX and ABC channels. I have called Dish twice but they have done nothing. I guess its time to go back to cable:confused:

We've stopped recording ABC shows now because of this problem. Boston Legal, Greys Anatomy, the final few NASCAR races...we either watch them live or we don't watch at all! Even paused ABC shows have the blips when we start watching again...until its live again. We are getting absolutely sick and tired of this CRAP!!!!!!!

I have been having the same problem with my 622. Dish sent a tech out to check my signal reception and to try and adjust that and then when that didn't work he just changed out the receiver. But I'm still having the same issues with recorded programming. This is only on my local ABC affiliate HD feed from Dish. My OTA records with no problem but the second you record on the dish Hd feed it starts with the intermittent drop outs. The video is perfect. Could this be some sort of Copyprotection from ABC. I just think it's weird that it only affects that particular channel. The other stations record great. Looks like I need to switch primetime recording to SD. I really wish dish would fix this.

At the risk of becoming one of those DirecTV a-holes that comes into the Dish Network section and craps all over everything I think it is safe for me to say that switching to DirecTV was an excellent move.

I can finally watch recorded ABC and FOX shows again! It's great!

Dish subscriber for two years but this problem the last few months was a deal-breaker. Seriously, it is soooo nice to be able to watch TV again without getting pissed off because I can't hear anything.

722 Sound Dropping

Folks,

Setup:
722 with digital output to Yamaha RV-1105
Component connection to TV

I have the same problem. I have had three receivers replaced and still have the same issue. While I can watch shows live in HD or SD with no skipping, as soon as I record a program and play it back it happens.

The show will appear fine, when all of a sudden I have an audio drop out and then it is fine again (sometimes it is much worse than others...at times the show becomes unwatchable). Dish tells me they will keep replacing the receiver, but it seems odd that it cannot be fixed.

It seems that it happens most on ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC HD in St. Louis.

Is there something specific I need to say to Dish to get a receiver that will work or is this a larger firmware issue? Any help would be great as this is becoming increasingly frustrating.

Thanks,
Tim

I share your frustration. I don't think it's a receiver problem, though, unless it's a generic problem with all 722's (and 622's also, I think). I isoloated the problem to the receiver since it also displays itself on TV2 speakers. Was convinced that I had a bad receiver and Dish replaced my 722. That didn't help the problem.

The thing that is most surprising to me is that this information hasn't filtered down to customer service or to the technicians. Dish must be spending a ton of money replacing receivers with in-kind equipment.

Engineering knows about the problem and it is software induced They are working on a solution.

Engineering needs to talk to customer service/technicians and Dish needs to publish a statement that acknowledges the problem and states that a solution is being developed.

This is not something that can be lived with. Here is an example of what Family Guy was like from Sunday night:

"The bird [drop] bird, [drop] bird is the word. The [drop] bird bird, the bird [drop] the [drop]. Well don't [drop] know [drop] bird is [drop] word? Well every[drop] the [drop] is [drop] word!"

Real funny.

This is exactly what Simpsons, Family Guy, & American Dad have sounded like on my recordings since the beginning of the new season. I don't have this problem on any other night except Sunday and only on Fox, so I assumed it was the station. I record House, Fringe, Bones, Terminator....all of these sound fine.

I think it depends on your viewing habits. I usually watch the ABC national and local news on time-delay and assumed that it was a receiver problem. I've since learned (after Dish replaced my receiver) that the problem NEVER presents itself on most of my other viewing, and I think it only appears on the recorded stuff (including a simple one-minute rewind of live TV).

That is how mine was too. Dish Network is polishing the brass on the Titanic. They deserve every customer loss they get. This problem has been going on now for months and months. It is not the economy Charlie, it is crap like this.

Both!

I recently switch to Dish TurboHD, still have DTV HD for few more weeks, both are doing the audio drops. Maybe something with the 1080P updates. My DTV never did this before a few weeks ago.

I signed up for Dish turbo hd gold in August and I have been having audio drop outs since day one. Despite numerous calls and emails they have done nothing so I am filing complaints with FCC and FTC and switching to Direct TV next week. If they try to penalize me for canceling early I'll fight them in court. All the forums have numerous people with the same complaints.

Same problem with RI locals

I am experiencing one or two second audio drop outs intermittently on local HD channels. The problem occurs on both my 622s. One uses HDMI and the other uses rca audio. It is frustrating and Dish's only solution is to re-boot.

I get dropouts on recordings but its only for a split second. This isnt the same as what everyone else is describing I assume.

I only get drop outs on DVR'd shows, live sports events are fine. Right now running on the buffer watching UHD and no drop outs, but if I go into my recordings it happens. Connected through the optical into my Yamaha, the HDMI port on the 622 went a long time ago, can't check that one. All my boxes are on UPS, right from the install, so it isn't a power issue. Started to happen when the box went Turbo.

Unacceptable! Talked to 3 different CSR's and none of them heard of it. Talked to one "engineer" and he had not heard of it, or at least may not have wanted to admit it. They had to send me 1 new 622 even though it is doing it on both of my 622's. Still the same. They had to send a tech out, which I told them would not be able to fix it. He had never heard of others having the problem. He replaced the dual lnb, so at least I have a spare. The tech called his stupervison and was told to turn it off for 10 minutes and it would update itself and the problem would be resolved (come on!) I am very, very close to calling it quits. Dish has the best dvr, aside from tivo, In my opinion. My profession is home theaters, home audio, and home automation. Not all people are having the issue. Some of my customers with dish are fine and some are very bad with the audio. My business partner has no problems at all. It's all his fault I left cable. I deal with all the different companies and they all have their problems. DTV ondemand, awesome. Dish ondemand, gimmie more money. I also like recording sat music to playback later and radio margaritaville. What am I to do, switch to a product I don't like as much? I can imagine the fun I will have tring to break the contract. I'm going to try to get two 722's from them to try before I throw in the towel. It will not be long before I am a former customer.

That's my rant for now

VERY unhappy! (That's a big understatement)

I like the one statement "it's not the economy charlie, it's problems like this"

We "officially" complained back in October. They asked for more info on our received (model number, etc.) and then received the following email reply:

"Thank you for your email. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. Thank you for providing the information for our engineering department. They are currently working towards a resolution for this issue. Unfortunately, we do not have a status report for this situation at this time. Generally these issues are resolved via software information sent directly to the receiver. Please remember to turn off your receiver when you are not watching TV, so that it can receive the update when it becomes available."

Three weeks later, we are still having the problem...just on DVR'd ABC shows!
