How desperate is the government for Barry Bonds??!!

One more time for the slow.......

I know damn well steroids alone don't create a better ball player. Certain skill sets (hand/eye coordination, bat speed, etc are required to make it to the Bigs in the first place). I've said this a million times!

However, introduce 'Roids to an existing power hitter who was previously a "warning track hitter" and they are now a "home run hitter". Bigger muscles created by these performance enhancers are attributed to the spike in home runs. Bigger muscles allow them to hit more home runs. How else do you explain the spike in numbers during this era by power hitters?

Salsa, you tend to be dancing around the word "better". How you define it personally is up to you.

BTW, this whole argument started because of this very first statement by you claiming that Roids do nothing to enhance performance. By saying this, you're saying that 'Roids did not enhance a players ability to hit home runs!
Yes let's help the slow!!:D

So if any of these Juiced up hitters played in 80 games would they have hit 60 home runs? Or do they have a better chance of hitting 60 in a 162 game year? Barry was already hitting HOME RUNS!! He got upset and Jealous of all the hoopla people had for McGuire!! Even though people suspected McGuire of juicing most did not have a problem with it! I remember countless times people would say that stuff does not help he was always a great hitter.. Well being a life long A's fan he was good just would get hurt all the time. Then all of a sudden he could stay healthy??

Right........

So you're saying that if this guy would be able to "stay healthy" for 162 games he would hit 60 homers a year? I'm sure the increased muscle mass had nothing to do with the spike in numbers. It was all about health.

LOL LOL what you could not find a baby picture!!???????

I'm saying we disagree i have a feeling we disagree because some of us have played sports at higher levels then high school and we have been around more pro athletes then others.. So yes that is what i am saying!!!:up

Maybe the big head helped him.

I'm not saying Roids didn't help, but it wasn't the only thing.

This statement needs to go into the satellite guys hall of fame. It's a classic. :D

And I agree with that statement too. But that isn't what your boy is saying.

He said for the 1,000th time: "Roid's do not enhance performance". This is what the last 8 pages of non sense have been about.

You're not really pulling out the credibility card are you?

So your an ex-athlete and Salsa used to be in the media. You guys must know everything there is to know about sports right? All of the rest of us are clueless right? Please.

BTW, you have no idea of my background.

HD, it's obvious you don't know what you're talking about because you live in Cleveland and didn't play volleyball in junior college.

Salsa was in the media!!? WOW that is cool!:up No we don't know everything not at all!! I do know that i have met some of these guys and played with some of there family members. I do understand a little more then the average sports fan. That is not bragging just true. I don't think the rest of you are clueless just have not seen certain situation first hand. I also have family who play Pro sports. Again i did not say it makes me a pro or know it all. Now in all honesty the way Salsa is talking i took him for a ex player of a major sport. Football, Baseball, etc, etc. So to me he has more of a understanding. I have never disputed roids don't add muscle. I will tell you athletes get more out off the rebuilding and longevity of muscles then growing bigger muscles.. As far as you saying i think you are clueless.. Well not the way you mean it but about first hand situations. yea maybe! BTW i do not know your back ground but by the way you are talking i am guessing you have NOT been in the situation like this before. It's a proven fact that doctors prescribe steroids to help heal muscles. I do also know three pro body builders and they cant even get close enough to hit a ball!!:D:D Let alone hit it out of any park!!:D

Hum i must have missed the joke! volleyball.. As far a Cleavland nothing wrong with that. Some of the most passionate:up fans from there!

Yeah, OK.

If you really understood more you wouldn't have to say it, it would come through in your posts. It doesn't.

I would imagine all of the guys in here have played sports at various levels, but they don't feel the need to come here to tell everyone they're smarter than everyone else because of it.

Unless you played major league baseball and took steroids, you know nothing more than every other poster about major leaguers taking steroids. Saying it over and over again doesn't make it true. It just makes you sound pompous.

I'm a triathlete, I can tell you how and why I train a certain way, how different foods affect my body during training, how to taper for a race...but I can't tell you about how EPO affects your blood stream, because I don't take it. But I can look it up in a search engine, just like you can.

I'd like to interject myself into this conversation:

Sometimes, it's not just steroids that help out. It's also the ability to have a lot of muscle and swing a bat really damn well.

I played on a lot of Little League teams, and I have never been known for being in great shape. You could say I am the polar opposite of Sandra- I do not work out and train as much as she does.

My philosophy has been all about strength- lifting a lot, swinging a bat, and making contact.

I hit a lot of home runs as a Little Leaguer (I stopped playing in 1998 after I git hit by a pitch and broke two fingers), and I a semi-fat kid with lots of strength.

I live by the Babe Ruth philosophy- eat a ton, hit a ton.

Yes you got that right attacking people and trying to make them sound stupid is not they way!!:D:up Yea well your right again! I DID NOT TAKE STEROIDS! So me being not too bright quit baseball and i just root for the A's instead of anything else!:( So see your post was all wrong at least considering me! I was there! Just trying to be nice about it and i did NOT say it over and over.. I do have a different opinion and i think mine is a bit closer to the truth.. So i guess I'm not the only POMPOUS person here. That is cool about you being a triathlete! I know absolutely nothing about that so i can comment on my feelings but nothing concrete so i guess i'm not as pompous as i thought!:p

Everyone always thinks their opinion is a bit closer to the truth...that's why it's their opinion.

Thanks for thinking triathletes are cool. Most people think we're nuts. :)

Sandra

I'm only good at the swimming part.

Biking and running, OTOH- I'd get smoked like the Suns over the Kings (48-point margin of victory)

I mentioned not being in great shape and being able to hit well.

Here's a true story:

Before a game, I went to Hardee's and had a BIG meal- double burger, fries, shake- that can usually give one a stomachache and cause you to miss an at-bat or two.

Hit three homers that game.

You could say I'd be the prototypical designated hitter- can't catch can't field, but I am capable of hitting a ton.

Salsa- if you're still playing baseball, why not give me a tryout? If I hit with you in your batting order, we'd be the greatest baseball duo since Ruth and Gehrig!
