My 99 cent PowerVu showed up today, after lots of reading here and elsewhere, it's up & running on G18! ...And Iceberg, your thread on these was very informative, and like you said, it's not too hard to program after you get a little used to it. TP 11720 took 45 minutes, and 11800 took about 45 seconds LOL! :D:up For an SD only box it's got a nice sharp picture.

yeah its a nice receiver...and you're right...programming isnt too bad after you get the hang of it

Did you get a remote with yours or do you use a Universal?

Mine came with the remote. The receiver and remote look like brand new! The shipping was 20 bucks, but it was very well packed, so I still think it was a good deal. The auction went the full 7 days with nobody bidding against me.:)

I guess that answers my next question....if that 2nd one (with the remote) ever showed up....:(

A quick Q. guys, is there fixed key/zero key PVu content available, stuff similar to the DCII commercial rx's?
Haven't really tried yet but I will soon. I got the receiver Thursday. Iceberg has had his longer, but I don't know if he's tried to find any ZK PVu yet.:)

I was just curious, I've not heard of such, but without a way to seek them one would never know. Regardless, 21 buck for a functioning DVB w/remote is a fair deal, even if it is cumbersome to setup. You can always leave it set for the Mainstay FTA ch's and use your other stuff to scan.
I wonder how well doc'd those ol' dogs are. If there is any PVu ZK content, with enough documentation, and some fearlessness, a person might be able to enhance the freq/SR controls to scan.............dunno........could be useful for hunting ZK content if it could be done. Can't beat the price. If we could get some good docs on some of these Asian built boxes, that would open some doors on how it's done, HW wise. I expect used ones to be as plentiful and cheap as used VCRs before too long..........lol
Keep us posted on what you find out. Might be something I'll have to to try out.

That's weird. Your post wasnt there when I logged in this evening Tron, and the time stamp is way before I even got online today.........anyway.........yeah, I wondered about that too, since it is dvb, just encrypted or not. DCII is a different standard altogether. I guess the thing that made me question it was I read that those have to be put in "dvb mode" or something to that effect to pick up non PowerVu (yet dvb) signals. Maybe it was for some other reason, access to config parameters etc........dunno. Still would be a kick to get elbow deep into one of them if a service manual could be had.

I have a 9234 myself and using the S-Video they have a great picture. I notice using it on a non Powervu feed the date is 1-01-96 and if it locks on a PV mux it actually corrects the date and time and program info. I haven't found any zero key feeds yet...

Mine came with the remote.

Hmmm......... where to get a card....
There should be dumpsters full of them yeller ones in a week or two.....lol. Oh, I bet you meant one that has usefullness...........uh, yeah, the recruiting office is 123 Main St. They can hook you up!
I wonder, is the AFN operated by the military/govt, or is it a private sector service group? I can see the Pentagon Channel is programmed by active duty personnel, but I suspect the broadcast infrastructure for AFN is likely civillian. If so it's a shame the dont pursue the civillian market. Make's one wonder what a sub would cost, since the govt has to accept the lowest bid, and the pizzaria guys are the direct competition.

AFRTS is a combination of programs from various sources designed for military personnel

If you have access to the mux on G28 C-Band there is a guide that shows what is on there...I like the fact they show PPV programs on there for free

So AFN isnt a single SSP entity like DN or DTV? Seems like that would be a subscription mgmt headache, trying to keep track of what who get authorized for what, and from where.

not really. you must be military personnel either active, reserve or retired to get subscribed. I know goaliebob mentioned his subscription is still active yet he is "retired" from the military if I remember correctly.

And I think the military has no issues with the info on who is getting it ;)
