Puerto Rico- HD announcement and more. What do you think?

That's the problem for existing subs. A 211 with an external hard drive will do the trick. I have 1-622, 3-211 and 2 of those with an external HD.

Why is so cheap on the states? Well the receivers are leased...:(

As far as I know...even after paying so much & buying the receivers..Dish will continue to charge rental fee/lease fee. Its not that I pay eg 200 for a box...& will not pay to Dish any lease fees. Thats what make the deal more expensive & useless.

Anyway...Tom...do u know if we will ever have the same capability...ie lease HD box for cheap as in USA?

If you buy he receiver you don't pay any lease fees, just the regular $7 for additional HD receiver outlet. Regarding the leasing as long as Dish handle the business in PR trough us the independent dealers I won't see that happening. But they are talking about openning a local office here in the island so we'll see.

Tom this is from Dish Network Fees FAQ

Why does DISH Network charge a receiver lease fee for my Standard or High Definition receiver?

The receiver lease fee for the first activated receiver on your account is included in your programming package price when you subscribe to qualified programming. An additional receiver lease fee of $5.00 per month for a standard definition receiver (Solo, Duo, Solo DVR, and DuoDVR), or $7.00 per month for a high definition receiver (HD Solo, HD Duo, HD Solo DVR, or HD DuoDVR) will be charged to your account for each receiver activated beyond the first.

When I got Dish installed I got 625 & 311. I have classic 200& DVR advantage + I play $5 for 311 as additional SD outlet. I didnt pay/buy any of the above 2 boxes.

My point is....even if I buy HD box...I continue to pay additional outlet box. It appears thats that what Dish calls a lease fees ie combined with outlet fees. Therefore....buying the HD box at such high price makes no sense to me at all.

As u mention..Dish is looking to open a local office. Hoping that whatever happens...I get a HD box (preferably DVR)..at a cheap price if not free upgrade :D. Till then...I will wait.

Something is coming for Puerto Rico from Dish, they are having a special Puerto Rico chat for retailers on July 20th at 1pm.

Look like all those new HD channels will be turn on or around that period. :)

I know...Tom is a dealer.....that why I asked him...since he should have the answers.

My only concern is....I have to pay the additional outlet fees anyway. Dish site dont say anything abt lease. The SD box that I have...I didnt buy them...& I dont have any lease fees also.

I dont want to pay so much for a box....& continues to pay outlet prices also. I am willing to wait....wait..till 2010 WC soccer.

Scott...can u let us know...in PR....if the HD box is leased....how much extra we have to pay for it.....plus HD additional outlet is $7 (in case of 211)

I brought mine and my 211 i change it to a dvr rajmarie with a external drive 500gb. I have 3r boxes on my account. 1 211 1-5011-311

501 has a dvr fee of 5.99 and add cost of 5.00
311 fee of 5.00

I dont think the 501 has a dvr fee, only the 510 has a dvr fee of the 5xx series. Maybe the dvr fee is for the 211. Anyway I believe that Dish is going to offer some kind of promotion to sell the HD pak including leased receivers.

the 211 does not have a dvr fee it only has a one time 49.00 fee when you buy the external hard drive a convert the 211 to a dvr!

This charge has been added to any additional receiver since day one. The same charge that DirectTv will charge you, or the Cable Company. They call it additional Lease Fee, because basically on the US everybody is leasing the receivers. Why the call it additional because you have to pay a monthly fee for all the equipments that you got installed. So the additional outlet fee is $5-$7 dollars depending if the receiver is SD or HD. How much do you pay for the lease "system"? I don't know because we don't offer that in PR. Can somebody help?

What I meant by this is that every Cable/DBS company will charge you for every additonal receiver. The fact that you got your receivers for free is because you agreed or took a contract with Dish for 1-2 years(I think 2 yearsbecause you got 3 tuners 625-2 tunners and the 311-1 tunner), like when a Cell Phone company give you a phone for free, is the same concept. They pay me for the installation, commision and reimburse the cost of the receivers all this in exchange for your contract agreeement. Now you want a 211, well you are an existing customer, so you have to pay full price for it. I tried to get an Ipod 3Gs and I'm still under contract, well ATT told me yes, but they asked for $500 and 2 additional years of contract. Cell Phone carriers do give a discount on new phone once your contract is over.Dish don't expect you to change your receivers on a yearly basis.

So I understand you frustration, I have 4 HD receivers on my house, 3 of them pay $7/month. I'm obligated to keep my 622 to a phone line to avoid an additional $5.

Thanks Tom for a very clear reply. Yes its a 2 yr contract....& I still have abt 8 months to go. So I guess...I will wait for my 2 yrs contract to finish...before talking to Dish abt upgrade on 311 to VIP211 (since it is the one conected to HDTV)..to see if they can offer me a better price on the box or better free upgrade in exchange for futher 1-2 yrs contract (which I atm have no issue signing since I have no issue with Dish & surprising the few times I called Dish CSR...the experience was quite pleasent)

Are transponders 18 and 20 on 110 hot yet for you PR guys?

What about 23 and 29 on 110 that are not used yet?

I cant say since I dont have HD box...but since I havent seen a new uplink report from u Digi...saying the HD channels are available to us now :D....I dont know if anybody can see the channels.

Hope Dish can add additional HD channels on the remaining 2 spots....another 14-16 HD channels......in the process...literally forcing viewers here to notice the plenty of HD goodness Dish have on offer for us PR subs....& in the process...maybe getting new subs :p
