Special Retailer Chat Recap - July 20, 2009

This goes back to a question that I had earlier in this thread: does anyone know if the HD channels being moved from 129 to 110 will be made available to the PR/VI subscribers also? There's no logical reason why they would not be, yet they haven't been explicitly mentioned for the PR HD Pack.

Yes...doesnt make any logical sense since they will be on CONUS beam on 110 & that sat is quite powerful reception of CONUS in PR. I was expecting to see those atleast mention in the marketing flier...like coming soon or something like that.

Now I dont think Dish will give us those channels soon. I was talking abt NBATVHD & WGNHD & was trying to convince him to convert his 1 Dish box in HD...since he too is Bulls fan.

Still waiting for someone to tell us what Dish announced for us existing customers & HD upgradation....or is it what Nel did the only way for existing Dish customers to do it.

Its a matter of profits for the local Dish Retailer.

Legacy hardware costs:
Lnb dual = $15
Dish sw21 = $15
3x4 switch = $15

DishPro hardware costs:
DP Dual Lnb = $30
DP21 switch = $30
DP34 switch = $60

As you can see, Dish Pro hardware is twice more expensive than legacy.

Remember , since the local Puerto Rico Retailer don't charge you a penny for the installation, the cost comes directly from his sales commission. Not to mention he already gave you $160 in two 4' metal antennas for FREE!!!

Let hope Dish stablish a fair retailer reimburstment system for the sales and distribution of the soon to be used 30" antenna. Then you'll probably see Dish Pro hardware in new customer installations.

At least that's what I'm planning to do.

You correctly hit the nail,Is about max profits, but I can assure you after August will be mandatory to use dpp gear on new installations(about time)cost certainly was a problem but top retailers were in Colorado last week to resolve this situation,A lot of good things coming on their way.;)

Not to forget the issue that the mouting base from a OEM Dish Pro LNB is different from an legacy LNB, so to use them with our "regular" dishes an lnb arm modification was needed. It wasn't until early this year that those lnb arms for DP lnbs were available.

DPP Plus is actually the best option now that we hardly get single tuner units, but is too expensive...

And for those fortunate enough to have the full package, keep it.

One comment, those people that own a six footer and don't have the US-HD Package can get all the Premium Channels moving aiming their Dish to the 61.5. And actually a 5 footer correctly aligned can get them all but one Cinemax Channel that I can't recall the name.

Ok I got to watch the rest of it and there wasnt really anything else interesting worth reporting, however with that said my spanish isn't good so I might have missed something that was said and that wasn't shown on the screen.

So because of this I am having someone who speaks spanish review the show and report what they saw and heard as well. :)

I am hoping they can do it this morning. :)

Thanks for being SatelliteGuys!

No news on receiver upgrades that's a shame. Why would they add 6 new sd channels on MPEG4? I believe more than 90% of Dish customers in PR won't get them.

Thanks Scott for keeping us inform.

Hi

On one of the screenshot from yesterday recap I notice it says "Descarga de software para Vip211/K o Vip222/K"

Translation - Software download for Vip211/K or Vip222/K

What does this mean? DVR software upgrade?

That upload is only for new subs who want Dish Latino packages. they will be installed with 1 dish solution...a 30 in dish pointed at 110 & they will have the VIP receivers which will allow them to not only receive Dish Latino packages, but local PR channels plus 1 extra local religion channel in MPEG4. those SD channels IMO uplink as MPEG4 on our spots because they r on 119 sat...& now they can get those without 119 with the new single dish solution. Tom/Technoguy correct me if I am wrong

I understand that perfectly, but it doesn't make sense to add new channels to make a more atractive pak for new customers only. For example, of the new channels my son and daughter love DIscovery Kids, whenever they are at their grandma house that's the channel they watch. If I would like my kids to have that channel I would have to buy a dual VIP receiver for them. And if I bought one for myself that more than $300 on HD receivers (non dvr). SO where are the great news for currents customers. I guess there are none. Where are the equipment upgrades? There are none. I guess I will have to wait for my contract to expire and subscribe again.

Guys there are more than 1 channel MPEG4 sd:
This is for the special 110 package

Yup....no good news for current subs. I guess I will have to do the same....once my contract expires....IMO...Dish wants this circle....despite that they lose money on every turnover....ie existing customer disconneting & reconnecting. But...lets see...I have still some time to go...& Dish might throw me a bone by then. Who knows..by then Cable can also come up with new HD channels...& maybe cheaper then Dish

Also, there is info in your post that I didn't read in Scott's posts. Did you see the chat? If so, where?

Thanks to you and Scott for the info.
