otherwise get the Cyberhome "sonic voom" headphones. Then you can run it through the speakers on your TV

correct
all of the HD receivers can output AC-3 through the rca plugs

Thank you all for the suggestions. I've been using a Coolsat 7000 working on building a C-band MiiniBUD system. I read the specs for my Nfusion HD STB but it just says audio decoding is ISO/IEC13818-3(MPEG-2 audio/MUSICAM. I'll definitely give it a try though.

If it can do HD it **should** be able to output the audio through the rca connectors

You are correct, and thank you again for pointing me in the right direction. Setup was a little tricky with the Nfusion HD. There is no decoded audio by default, but I discovered two options offered in the language menu, "DD aaa" and "DD aaa", both appearing to be the same, but having different functions. The alternate entry must be selected to decode the audio. After doing so, audio appears on all outputs including HDMI. Also, this setting won't stick if doing another channel rescan.

Sonic Voom and AC-3

Lately, I've notice all the channels on which I'm missing audio, too! I hope I haven't thrown away a twenty dollar bill by ordering a pair of Sonic Voom headphones.

The decoder runs on a rechargeable battery which comes with the headset. It plugs into the back of the fta receiver using the optical output. I have an old Buzz 2010F I'm using now for fta, but I also have a CW-600 premium with the same output. Both my Viewsat lite and Fortec ultras lack this same feature.

I found a pair of headphones yesterday on e-bay. I don't know where they're coming from. But they're paid for and I should have them by the end of the week. I'm not really all that interested in using headphone. But there is a headphone jack which I'm sure can be converted to a set of wires which can be run to a set of speakers. Right now I'm hoping I can use a set of computer speakers. Most everybody has extra sets since computers get thrown out all the time because of upgrades.

I plan to reply again to this thread and report on the results!

It has been difficult for me getting this information. It is scattered around on several web sites I've been looking at.:):):)

I Googled AC-3 decoders and found a couple of stand-alone units. They have coaxial and optical inputs with RCA outputs operating on a wall wart. At about $70 for these units, it's probably better just getting a home theater system.

before I got my pansat 9200's it was a real PIA when ac-3 audio feeds would be the only option on a channel....Hey now they have dolbe E and AAC to throw at us!

It also has a ac adapter. I have one of these.

The original Fortec Ultra? That had AC-3 option.
