More National HD Channels… ?

I was surprised to hear the customer service rep read a list of a few channels that includes some sports regionals (from Fox Sports and Comcast). One channel mentioned was Outdoor Life 2 HD. Another was, as has been reported (months ago), ESPNU HD.

Outdoor Life 2? Never heard of it. I thought Comcast changed Outdoor Life to Versus. Maybe they meant Outdoor Channel.

It's Outdoor Channel 2 in HD.

Sorry.

I'm lucky I kept track of BET Jazz becoming Centric. These names (and name changes).

If crappy Comcast can have more national HD stations in Knoxville (not including RSN's and Premie's) than DirecTV, something is definitely wrong. According to my count, Comcast has 67 while Direct has 53, yikes, they need to do something soon as it almost makes sense for me to go back to Comcast. Please put more HD on the air like Travel, AMC, G4 and E!, that's my wish for the new year from DirecTV.

Same with CableVision (well 2 less now that HGTV and Food are gone...) but cable can cram a bunch of HD with SDV technology (when it works lol) BUT coming back to DirecTV from CableVision is an eye opener -- the PQ looks maybe 30% better with DirecTV! No more microblocking (even the food network had when CV was showing it). So I would rather wait for D* to have that new bird up and running rather then stuff more HD into the feed.

Just my 2 cents worth of drama LOL

- side note I do want more national channels though

Travel channel HD

I remember years ago when HD was new that HD Discovery was about the only channel. They showed places and scenery. Then came Travel channel to give us a nice look at scenery and the world in HD. That has now been two years for the Travel channel. I am big sport fan and that is why am still with Directv love sports in HD.But it is now time for DIRECTV to give us the HD channel that has been out there for so long. Like the Travel channel. I have to keep my wife happy with a channel for her :D

Heck I remember when HDNet was the only channel in HD on Directv and it was Free!

If D* pulled Food HD and HGTV, that is the only time my wife would dictate what needs to be done. Charter is in my area and they only offer Lifetime HD and ION HD which D* doesn't currently offer.

With the new bird in the sky people will get what they are looking for on National channels.

I hate to say it, but a year and a half ago my local Time Warner only had 10 national HD channels (total) in my area. I ran a channel guide for our area the other day on the Time Warner website and they are now smokin us by more than 16 HD national channels in my area (they added big time). I am going to hold out a little longer because I love Direct (and absolutely hate Time Warner) but.......it is still in the back of my mind that there is more HD available in my area for about the same price that I am paying now. I am hoping that there are some impressive HD additions, even if it is only 10-15 HD channels and that will keep me, but if it is only 3 or 4 (with two of them being HSN and QVC) then I might have to start shopping...

I feel the same as you. I'm giving them until June 1 before I switch to FiOS, simply because of the hassle in switching. But come June 1, if they do what I think they'll do... add 20 new HD PPV channels and only 4-5 national HDs, I'm gone.

It really annoys me that they are pretty much falsely advertising now by still claiming "DIRECTV offers more of your favorite channels in HD than anyone — more than Dish Network, more than cable.". Most people living in major metro areas now have more HD available on FiOS and even local cable systems. And I'm pretty sure Dish just passed them recently. Didn't they?

There's 20 or so out there, plus the 20 or so premiums that are missing. They better all be there by summer.

I wish Directv will put Univision and Telefutura in HD im a big soccer fan will love to watch this year world cup in HD or more spanish speaking channel in HD

with the recent december additions, the cable company where i live now has 103 national hd channels including all the hbo's, espnu, travel, bbc america, msnbc, wgn america and amc. i added it in september. and depending on what directv adds in april or may, i may keep cable permanently.

But how could this be?

Just 3 days ago, I received a brochure in the mail from D*. It assured me that D* provides MORE HD than any other provider!

They were quite adamant about it.

Thus, you must be wrong!

:p

If someone from DIRECTV reads this, they'll be pretty scared I'm sure.

They should be. Just because I'm vocal about it doess't mean there aren't a 1000 others who were once or are now premium subs thinking the same thing right now.

1000 subscribers lowering their DIRECTV monthly fee out of the 8 million total subscribers probably doesn't scare them. :)

I'm going to call in next week to drop HBO/SKINMAX and add the STARZ channels.
I'm glad I heard about the 2-for-1 STARZ/SHOWTIME deal.

Okay,
Got my letter from Direct today giving me a heads up about the price increase in Feb. Two things that got my attention in the letter (they give me reasons why I should stay with Direct even though they are upping the price:

"Access to over 130 channels in HD with the capacity of 200 coming soon

If you are going to raise my prices, you would think that they would reassure me that more HD is going to be added and that I am going to see why my prices are increasing. But it just says capacity, nothing about additions. I would think that they would want to start "hyping" that MORE is coming???? I am worried that the capacity is going to be more for PPV and the couple of 3D channels they are now hyping at CES (no offense to you 3D people out there, but I could care less about 3D and am not going to buy a new TV to get these couple of channels.)

More sports in HD than any other cable or satellite provider

This, to me, is stating that they are the leader in SPORTS HD, but there is no mention of being the leader of OVERALL HD. So I am kind of happy that they have dropped that whole, we are the leader overall thing. Two years ago they were the leader overall (my opinion) but now your startin to get dusted...

Dont get me wrong, I still love Direct, 9 years and countin, but show me that you are going to remain competetive. I dont need to see every new HD channel that comes out instantly. But throw me a bone every six months, add a surprise channel or two so I know that you are keeping your services competetive (talking national channels). Max out your HD services first before moving on to 3D, nothing against 3D, but I am in to regular HD first. Just my two cents.

We received a promotional mailing from them just last week. Trying to entice my wife into signing up for D*. It still included bold statements about being the overall leader in HD.
