This idea apparently failed, DISH dropped it, or something happpned. All that became of this idea is the banner we now see at the bottom of the screen.
Yeap, they keep trying ... and trying ... I think they hope that the majority of their customers have never seen anything "better" and that something (whatever they offer) is better than nothing.

New message on 213 indicating that Weathercast is no longer available. Wow, talk about short lived.

I remember a thread on this board several (maybe 5?) years ago where DISH Network was developing a very robust local interactive page which would automatically popup during TWC's "Local on the 8s" segments. It would even have the capability of alerting a viewer to severe weather in the viewer's LOCAL area. It really was to have behaved a lot like cable's "Local on the 8s". I believe Scott posted some screenshot samples of how it would appear. This idea apparently failed, DISH dropped it, or something happpned. All that became of this idea is the banner we now see at the bottom of the screen.

The difference now is that the vast majority have broadband connections potentially available with the VIP receivers.... It would be easy to push all that data through a broadband pipe vs. trickling it in over a satellite stream...

Really??? Though our market has no OTA weather sub channels (thank goodness), I surely wouldn't rely on them if we did. There are several up-to-the-minute sources on the Internets for local weather...

what if you're not near a computer?

The subchannels that have weather are actually pretty good. We have one here in Minneapolis that ironically is done by Weather Nation and is usually up to date

Maybe Paul Douglas will have another "frantic episode" like he had a few days ago when he got mad on the air. If he was that mad over a mic, imagine how mad he will get when he finds out that Dish dropped him. I wonder if their contract stated that Dish has the right to can the channel upon contract renewal with The Weather Channel. Maybe it was just for show to get TWC to cave in with the interactive commercial Paul Douglas did. TWC might have required Dish to remove The Weather Cast in order to keep it's channel on the air during talks.

What do I do now? I am going to have all these withdrawal symptoms. That will the same as taking Starbucks off the face of the earth. You don't go and remove a channel that soon after first airing it. I am glad that you did. Anything is better than nothing. God Bless you all.

Weather Cast did look rather bare boned as far as graphics, rather weak. Of course, the Weather Channel looked pretty but didn't actually show weather.

Our local WKYC pretty much just runs radar that is up to the minute. WOIO has a weather channel, but runs a ton of commercials, but they do have a guy that does forecasts, though sometimes a bit behind the time. Personally, I want a weather channel for radar that is as up to the minute as possible. The NWS is my main source for actual forecasts.

Lets hope it includes live local radar and satellite in addition to local forecasts. Weather seems to be taking a back seat to movies and other repetative programming on TWC. Flick and a forecast on Friday nights is not cutting it. The NWS websites for each local forecast office around the US provide a great deal of information and warnings as soon as they are issued.

Glad for the multi-year carriage agreement,I didn't care so much but the wife was angered at the proposed removal of The Weather Channel. The Weather Cast really was a 2nd rate outfit as the bloopers that made it to YouTube revealed.

Like I said earlier, you could put this on the local spot to save CONUS space... and have a delivery option that is available to nearly all dish receivers out there - moreso than with a broadband solution... not that I'd be opposed to that solution either....
