Hi (and thanks in advance for any replies),

Have just purchased (leased!) another receiver from Directv and being thrifty I decided to install this myself.

Originally we had the dish with 2 cables both going into a single HR23 DVR. Nearby the dish is a junction box (I forget the technical term) with extra outputs.

Now we have an additional HD receiver (refurb H21) and to cable this I split one of the lines (between the dish and the DVR) to take a feed to the H21.

To confirm: Cable 1 goes from the junction box into one socket on the DVR. Cable 2 goes from the junction box, is split into two with one end going to the remaining socket on the DVR and the other end feeding the H21.

Now the DVR is frequently downloading the programme guide and I can only attribute this to my shortcomings!

Basically what is the best way to feed the signal to the newer H21?

- Direct cable from the junction box?
- Powered splitter of some nature?

I hope this explains and many thanks!

Sounds like you may have a Slimline dish (NO SWiM set up, this makes it easier),
with a MultiSwitch and a HD DVR and you added a HD Recvr.

Ok, run 2 lines from the MS (junction block) btw, is there a model # on the block, so we know for sure what were dealing with. Not sure you needed a MS if you only had one recvr.
Check and see what the junction block says on it.

Run 2 lines from the dish to the back of the HR23, there should be 2 inputs that say Sat 1 and Sat 2, those are your inputs.

Then run 1 line from the dish to the new H21 input (H21 only has one input)

Plug in the recvrs and they will reboot and you should be good to go.

While you're at it, run a total of four lines from the dish to that junction box. Use two lines for the HR23 and one for the H21 receiver. Now you are set if you ever increase to >4 tuners.
