Fox v. Cablevision: STAGGERING increases!

What's with all the trolling? I thought this was the Dish Network forum, and I come here and see long time members doing nothing but trashing Dish Network? I though Scott had recently posted rules against this type of childish behavior.

It takes from the fun of the site, just my two cents.

Its not Trolling, Its debate. I've posted facts and unanswered Questions about the topic at hand.

Its time people get answers about where their money is going.

Trolling is coming in with unresearched information and a bunch of 1 liners.

I guess, some of you like giving money to untrustworthly people. But Many don't!

Do you put money in the bank? Do you have a credit card of any kind? Do you hold a mortgage?

If you do, you are giving money all the time to untrustworthy people. Just sayin'...... ;)

So why do you pay more then us when you don't have Fox networks,MSG Networks,ESPN/ABC/Disney,YES, MSG,MLB, Nascar Hot Pass, NFL ST,MLB EI And lots of others as well

Last I looked, I had Fox, ESPN/ABC/Disney on my guide. There are channels that Dish has that DirecTv doesn't. I don't have the energy or time to look them up but it's true.

Nothing and no one is perfect. I bet we could rip on the CEO of DirecTv too.

What Epix, wow I bet that cost Charlie a big chunk of change.

This is getting out of hand and needs to be moderated, with some posts deleted.

Secondly, the free channels that Dish have given me during this dispute are of far more value TO ME, than the ones taken off. Screw Fox. All I need them for is Fringe and I get that just lovely on my 722K/4 Tuner (2 Sat/2 OTA) DVR, in my $39.99 Top 120 HD with Locals package.

Do the math!

I have.. D* can't come close to Absolute HD with my single 622. $45 month. D* would cost me a minimum of $25 extra per month after the teaser rates expire (to get HD and DVR). $25/month == $300/year. Yep, I did the math and that's why I am very happy to stay with E*.

Me too I would love to see Charlie Lose all his subscribers.
That would be payback enough for me, for all his Lies, and BS Fees.

I would hope not. Competition tends to be advantageous for the consumer. A D* satellite monopoly would not be a good thing. They could set their rates much higher or change their channel lineups as they see fit. That would leave many subscribers with only one choice: pay or receive nothing. I think these disputes are good for consumers. If Cablevision caves to FOX, then E* caves to FOX, the next company won't have any leverage either. No matter which company you receive your transmission from, I feel you should be pulling for the companies fighting the increases. You hate E*. That's fine. But if they cave, D* will be in a much weaker position to save you money.

but the people that were paying for those now free channels are not getting reimbursed, unless they complain

So dish loses channels yet charges you the same and some of you are willing to buy an antenna instead of finding another provider?

Talk about giving dish a reason not to try to get your channels back.

I see your logic, for me the choice was based upon other factors. Mainly, the better HD clairity. I also think that the people who are taking this route are doing so, because they are siding with dish. It is FOX who pulled these channels. If I'm right, it was you who recently switched to DirecTV due to having it with Dish. I don't blame you for your choice, but our choice is to side with Dish and find alternative ways to screw FOX. When we had enough about the lack of price decreases, we will address it. Dish won't stay immune to us forever.

You can't right now, he just got through doing that under cover boss show on CBS a few weeks ago. He's a man of the people. Just kidding.

I can't speak for everyone, but I like Epix. Epix, The Movie Channel, and Encore is one of the reasons that I like having Dish. I get movie channels without shelling out 14 to 16 bucks a month for them. With Comcast (my local cable provider) it's 20 bucks a month no matter how many channels are in the multiplex (20 for 7 HBOs, 20 for 2 TMCs). However, they offer Encore the same way Dish does.

So why do you pay more then us when you don't have Fox networks,MSG Networks,ESPN/ABC/Disney,YES, MSG,MLB, Nascar Hot Pass, NFL ST,MLB EI And lots of others as well
For people outside the NYC DMA YES and MSG don't matter unless you pay for multi sports (and MLB and NBA games are always blacked out / YES doesn't have NHL). I'm tired of hearing about YES. That channel is important to Yankee fans inside their DMA. So please, Hemi, as someone who gets PA locals and sports (correct me if I'm wrong) don't start making YES sound like it's extremely relavant to the entire national sub base, because it's only important to Yankee fans in their market.

For people like me, who have a CSN instead of a FSN it also doesn't matter. The only thing that is true and has relevance to me is MLB, which thanks to Mom and Pop, with Verizon and Mom and Pop In Law with Comcast, I have that covered. ST isn't worth what they charge for it.

Isn't FOX about asserting a conservative perspective. Won't it hurt their followers if they don't hear from FOX so close to election day? There is real risk that FOX's editorial inputs will be less-clear in their marginal followers next Tuesday?

Fox certainly has some incentive to get this fixed!

That's the FOX news not the TV station affiliates.

i heard that time warner has an agreement with fox that if fox signs a lesser contract with another provider, then time warner gets that price also, anyone know anything about this?

Your are correct. The Cablevision Oct 26 letter is a good summary of the conflict from their point of view.

Cablevision Oct 26 FCC letter

Do you think that DirecTV has the same kind of most favored nation clause in relation to DISH? If DISH got a better deal then DirecTV, then would D* rate go down?

Cablevision wants to cave... but for only one year.

In the interest of Cablevision's 3 million households and our mutual viewers, today we have made a new offer to News Corp. Simply put: we agree to pay the rate Fox charges Time Warner Cable for carriage of WNYW-Fox 5 New York and WTXF-Fox 29 Philadelphia for a period of one year. This is higher than the rate we pay any other New York broadcast station. This solution is in the best interest of not only baseball fans but of all Cablevision customers and Fox viewers. We look forward to a positive response.

Ball is in your court, Fox.

As much as I dislike Insight cable, I do read Michael Willner's Blog every so often. Today there's a good post about retransmission fees and triple digit profits. It's titled "Broadcasters' Wall Street presentations reveal huge retransmission fee increases."
Check it out at: Michael's Insight
