Hello Glorystar Support,

I just received and setup my Glorystar System last week - had fun installing it myself!! This hobbyist Sat stuff is addictive.

My support question pertains to some channel issues. I am able to get strong signal and quality on most of the Glorystar channels (Quality at about 65 - 75 for most channels), but a couple of the Glorystar channels are not tuning in at all (showing a grayed signal bar and no quality on the DVR1100c signal meter).

Is this something I need to take care of via fine tuning the dish AZM/ELV or LNB skew? Or is this showing something of a different problem?

SYSTEM:
Geosatpro DVR1100C
SL1 Bullet - Standard Ku LNB
GEOSATpro 90cm (Azure Shine) Dish

CHANNELS NOT TUNING IN:
-Amazing Discoveries
-Bible Explorations
-Christian Youth Channel
-Life Health TV
-River Broadcasting
-Son Life Broadcasting
-Word Network
-may have missed listing one or two others

All other channels and programming are tuning in great!!

MY SETUP:
Location - Somerset, WI 54025
AZM: 188.2 deg
ELEV: 37.8
+4.3 Skew (counterclockwise)
Plum Mast
Flat Dish at time of setup (no warp)
*NOTE: I did have to thrust out the dish a couple times like a ball to get a true flat dish before install.

Your help is appreciated!

Yes, the hobby is addicting! Glad you enjoyed the exercise and installation. It still blows my mind to watch channels that have traveled 23,000 miles up and another 23,000 miles down to reach my home.

Several of these channels are on the same transponder, so this may be related to poor signal Quality readings. A few of the channels are on transponders that have many other channels (like Amazing Discoveries channel 111). This would make not sense.......

What are the Signal Quality reading on these channels? Place the receiver on the channel and press the Orange button on the top of the remote. The Quality reading is on the far left of the screen and is displayed with a numerically below the signal bar.
901:
121:
113:
106:

All Signal Quality readings should be as high as possible and balanced above 50% on ALL channels.

You might perform a factory reset on the receiver. Activate in the Glorystar mode and perform an OTA update following the steps on page 49 of your owners manual. Do not change any settings in the menus.

What I got for these four channels is..
901: Q65-70
121: Q0-5
113: Q55-60
106: Q60 (steady)

Did the Factory Reset, Re-ran the Glorystar OTA, same thing.
I did perform a firmware update last week and also have the latest firmware I think it is 3.33.

901: Q65-70
121: Q0-5
113: Q55-60
106: Q60 (steady)

I would expect higher Signal Quality readings, but most are acceptable.

The one that is confusing..... Are you sure that Channel 111 is not coming in? SQ:
This channel is on the same transponder as Channel 106.

Is 302 or 303 coming in? SQ:

I believe the LNBF SKEW (rotation) may be incorrect or the dish needs to slightly peaked, but that does not explain Channel 111 not coming in.

You might try a Master reset by depressing and holding the Channel Up button while powering on the Rear Panel Master Power Switch. Once a test screen appears, highlight 0, press OK then reset the Rear Panel Master Power Switch and reactivate the receiver.

his skew is correct. I'm in Minneapolis and the skew for 97W is about the same. The LNB output (if standing in front of the dish) is a little to the right

Have you tried to push in the LNB about 3/4" from the holder? I remember on my setup I had to do that to bring in more signal

I posted the problem channels from what I could remember, as I was not at my receiver, and may be mistaken about ch 111. I'll double check the channels when I am at my receiver and provide a definite list on this thread.

Glorystar Support: I am curious about your listing channel 121 with the other three (901, 113, 106) used in peaking the balanced signal. The manual only lists the three in peaking the signal, but is channel 121 a fourth one that should be added in general to be peaked when setting the dish (and balanced with 901, 113, 106)??

Since I have no signal quality on 121 at all, I suspect if I get that one set, that may solve some problems.

I did fine tune the skew after install (but only for channels 901, 113, 106) and know it was correct for those three. I did not try adjusting LNB distance closer/farther from the dish and will try that as well (I have it all the way to the clamp - furthest from dish at the moment). That is something consider - thanks for the tip Iceburg

I'll try all the above and get back to you guys!

Only asked about Channel 121 as it is on a transponder that you indicated that another channel was missing. The missing channel list certainly made no sense. We will be able to better advise with correct list of missing channels.

that probably would help. I remember when setting up mine they suggested pushing it in 3/4" in.
Somerset huh? Been there many times...mainly for fireworks ;)

OK guys, I was indeed mistaken about channel 111 (reception is good). Here is what I found, as I went through the TP Freq stuff in detail with channels on my system.

All Glorystar Channels with the following do not have SQ:
11966 H 22000 - (4-10 SQ)
11867 V 22000 - (4-10 SQ)
12022 V 22000 - (4-10 SQ)

Channels (11966 H 22000):
107 - The Word Network
121 - River Broadcasting Network
126 - Bible Explorations
302 - CNL (Russian)
303 - Rodnoy TBN TV (Russian)
550 - Divine TV (Malayalam)
1000 - Spirit 1 (Radio)
1001 - Overcomer (Radio)
1007 - Radio Eden (Radio)
1011 - Voices of Praise (Radio)

Channels (11867 V 22000):
120 - Christian Youth Channel

403 - Coptic TV (Arabic)
407 - Logos TV (Arabic)

Channels (12022 V 22000):
123 - Life Health TV

402 - The Way TV (Arabic)
502 - VBS (Vietnamese)

Note: I noticed on the glorystar detailed channel lineup (PDF) that CH 1008 listed as 11966 H 22000 - receiver shows it coming in as 11929 V 22000 (coming in good).

Now, as far as fine tuning (or re-aiming) goes, I know that needs to be done, as my SQ on the working channels is lower than when I first setup my system, but I never did ever get any reception for the above listed channels. Before I begin moving ELV/AZM/LNB Skew & Distance, I wanted to hear from you guys on what you see here and your recommendations on my problem??

Thanks again for your help!

Since both horizontal and vertical polarities have missing transponders and the frequency range contains other frequencies that are coming in fine, I am sure that this is only a dish aiming or LNBF skew (rotation) issue. Start with checking the skew then before loosening any bolts, lightly push on either side and top and bottom of the dish while observing the Signal Quality Reading. You may quickly determine if this is a result of the skew / focal distance or the dish aiming.

It was the focal distance - and turned out to be a pretty important adjustment in my case.

I am now getting in everything with an average balanced signal quality at or above 70% for nearly every channel, with the highest transponder hitting 85% (only one low transponder coming in at 58% SQ)...Thank You for your help on this issue!

I had to move the LNB focal distance to the shortest possible (adjusted all the way in toward the dish). I never considered trying this before, as I read somewhere - either on this forum or on Glorystar materials (not sure which) that this is 'wrong' positioning of the LNB (and should be mounted in the bracket furthest from dish, not closest..). Since this worked when I tried it, I thought maybe my dish elevation was off, so I pulled the LNB back, and tried readjusting the elevation - NOPE, same low signal quality again. I readjusted the LNB back to the shortest focal distance again and fine tuned the dish, and first repeaked my signal quality for for channels: 901, 106, 113 - and then went on to peak the signal quality for 107, 120, 123 - to peak the problem transponders. I went back and forth with these six channels until I got the results - Rock Solid SQ! I never got strong SQ when fine tuning with the LNB at the long focal distance...go figure...

Glorystar Support - I have one additional issue. I am not able to get the Ant/Sat function to switch between my Satellite input and the incoming coax Ant input (DVD player). I tried hooking up other equipment to the receiver ANT coax and still had the same problem. I think it may be the remote, as the zoom function does not work either, or goes glitchy. The zoom is no big deal, but the Ant/Sat input select is pretty important to me.

Does this sound like something with the remote IR?
Or does it sound like receiver firmware/hardware (internal A/B switch)? Is their a way to reset the remote IR with the receiver to test the remote - or test the receiver A/B switch by manually selecting the Ant/Sat function from the receiver panel?

Excellent trouble shooting! Great to learn of your success! Now it is time to start enjoying the system ! :D

Yes. LNBF placement is critical to optimizing the Signal Quality readings and balancing the SQ readings on all channels. Page 48 of the Install guide suggests to rotate and slide the LNBF in the mount to optimize SQ.

This problem does not sound like receiver or remote failure, but we will need to know more information on how the receiver is connected to the TV. It appears that that the receiver is not connected to the TV using the RF (coax) connection. This is a good thing, because the TV VCR OUT (modulator channel 3 or 4) has the lowest picture quality and resolution of any connection between devices. Is the TV connected using the higher quality connections such as the Component, Y/C or even the Composite AV? If so, the RF signals on the ANT IN port has no path to the Component, Y/C or Composite AV ports.

Explanation: In order for signals to be passed through, they must be the same format. In this case you are likely trying to pass through a modulated channel 3 or 4 signal to the component or composite AV ports. If you are using the TV VCR OUT connection to connect to the TV, the ANT/SAT or the Standby Power will toggle between the ANT IN connection and the STB programming. This is because both sources are RF modulated NTSC channels (channel 3 or 4). Since the satellite receiver does not have a built-in NTSC tuner, signals connected to the ANT IN cannot be decoded and passed out to the TV through the Component, Y/C or Composite AV ports.

Suggested Corrective Steps: If your TV does not have additional inputs and you must share an input with another device you may consider purchasing a multiple input switch box. If the DVD unit accepts Component, Y/C or Composite AV pass through connections, connect the receiver's output to the DVD Input then connect the DVD's Component, Y/C or Composite AV to the TV.

the zoom function does not work either, or goes glitchy.
The zoom feature does not have full function in the Time Machine or the recording playback mode. It does work with full function in the live modes.

Thank You Glorystar Support!

Doing just that!... Been greatly blessed with GOD-TV - had been yearning for its availability on FTA ever since I experienced a promo viewing a couple years back. Just sent them a ministry donation with an email thanking them for partnering with Glorystar on Galaxy 19, and ordered the book "Against All Odds" detailing the unique story and mandate of GOD-TV [The Story | GOD TV]

Explanation:...
That explains a lot on my issue for the Ant/Sat function. Thanks for the solid answer and detail, it really helps in understanding the basics.

The zoom feature does not have full function in the Time Machine or the recording playback mode. It does work with full function in the live modes.
The zoom acts glitchy for me using it in real-time/live viewing (remote zooms in all the way to full zoom and stays, not allowing me to adjust the depth). Exit works, taking me out. I don't see that I will ever need/use this feature, so it is not an inconvenience to me.

I would like to say...
