Direct is complacent with what they have and the revenue coming in vs payout. Why spend money when you can shine the stupid consumer on. More money for the CEO's. All big business is the same spend the least and take in the most.

Yawn! More baseless anti-corp, anti-capitalism garbage (not just from you, but from many in this country). You need to step up and try running a company of this size and scope with your methodology; I can't wait. Do gooders, socialist-leaning and the lazy have-nots are killing us. We all have stations in life and while I do not condone or agree with bashing or hate or discrimination on those that have less or have it tough; I damn sure don't condone or agree with spreading it all out evenly for those that didn't bust their asses along the way to EARN their keep; BUT now expect everyone else to hand them stuff or provide them with all the breaks most of us didn't and don't get; when they don't deserve it.

I agree with Phillip Swann's criticism of DirecTV being terribly behind competition on not bringing in relevant non-premiums in HD: AMC, right at the top of the list, along with the likes of BBC America, Turner Classic Movies, Headline News, E! Entertainment Television, Style Network, QVC, Home Shopping Network, History International, Lifetime Movie Network, and at least ten more. (Hell, DirecTV owns majorty of GSN and, yet, Dish Network has it in HD.)

On the substance: Swanni is correct. And DirecTV should not be shielded from this just criticism.

When it comes to following him word-for-word, I can see why people say he goes overboard. (Some believe it's even worse).

Again: On the substance, Mr. Swann is correct.

Actually the more accurate statement is that Swanni; like everyone else; has their own opinion. He simply has a blog in which to voice his. That doesn't make him correct.

Does he have anything to say about Dish not having ANY NY rsns, much less not carrying all available rsns in hd? Clearly he has an agenda. The fact is that Directv caters to a certain demographic, and Dish to another.

but then they still likely would not have all the basics, locals, sports packs or RSNs - so the same arguments would hold true.

Well here is my take on it! Swanni's right! He has been on the money! Directv got lazy with their sat launches due to the sell of the company. The new owners are not doing anything to add basic hd and even worse the competition like dish isn't any better with the lack of hd rsns! Directv sees that it doesn't have to do anything because Charlie over at dish is too cheap to try and acquire d* subs by adding the nich programming such as full time hdrsns to attract directvs subs back to dish. In laymens terms everyone has gotten lazy and the consumers are left holding the bag! It's gotten so bad that my local comcast line up is better than directvs and dishes! They are getting ready to roll out switched digital ip based channels in mpeg4 on my local comcast system! It will be like uverse minus the bandwidth and quality limitations!

Until directv sees a threat in the market place, nothing is going to change! Cry all you want about swanni, but he's 1000 percent on the ball and correct about this one! Like the housing market, directvs sub bubble will burst once the competition gets off of their lazy arce and stops leaving money on the table! Whom ever can become the provider of a 100 percent HD system, will have the market edge!

I think so much of what you wrote is accurate.

It's embarrassing that GSN, more than half-owned by DirecTV, is on in HD from Dish Network but not DirecTV.

Those who love Breaking Bad—starring three-time Emmy winner (in as many previously aired seasons) Bryan Cranston and, last year's best supporting actor in a drama series, Aaron Paul—just came back for a new season. But they don't get to see it on AMC in high definition on DirecTV; instead, they can catch it on Dish Network and cable systems.

Swanni is correct when he suggests that those DirecTV subscribers who are irked that the satcaster doesn't carry AMC in high def, as well as so many other programmers, may be better off dropping DirecTV. That that is what will deliver the message to DirecTV: a willingess to drop the service and opt for a competitor who delivers a good amount of the non-premiums in HD that are not being made available by DirecTV.

^ Nice try.

We know. Thanks for stating the obvious. But that doesn't mean it's okay for DirecTV not to have core, non-premiums in HD while Dish Network and cable systems are providing them.

It just so happens that not everyone cares about that much sports. I myself would love to have E!HD

I would like to see more basic hd, who wouldn't? I could just as easily say that it's not okay for Dish to not have basic sports channels. See how it works? IOW, no provider can be all things to all people.

Which is the reason there are two major satellite providers! Why is this so hard for some people to understand?

Even then; according to the taping notes its only 480i / letterboxed 16:9

I just want some of these posters to step up and tell what exactly we are missing in HD on some of these channels.

I want to know exactly why these posters want bandwidth WASTED on HSN and QVC in HD. Those are the absolute last two channels that should be given ANY attention when talking about HD.

Ice I dont think I flamed anyone all my post said was:

removed the flaming posts...lets keep it on topic folks

I wasn't flaming either. I made an accurate factual observation about the programming on a channel that certain posters INSIST must be carried in HD, and I was called a jerk for pointing it out.
