Ok so I got a slimline 3 dish from my dad to use for tailgating and stuff. Took it out to try and install it yesterday using my HR24 receiver, a tripod, 100ft of RG6 cable, and I also bought a bucket with concrete and a pole that is 1&1/4 in diameter just in case the tripod wasn't sturdy enough.

First problem, the pole on the tripod seems too small for the dish to clamp to.

Second problem, when doing signal tests I am getting absolutely nothing. So I called the technical dept at DirecTV and they walked me through how to change the dish type because I did not bring the swm power inserter with me. But I don't have BBand Converters either. So am I at a loss here?

What do I need to do?!?! I need this hooked up and working ASAP!! Tomorrow and Sunday is game day!!

Without the SWM powersupply you are SOL a 1 1/4" pipe is no where near the right size. That is why you try out your setup before going.

Well that's because it IS - the slimeline requires a 2" OD pipe

So are we - it would help FIRST, if you told us WHICH type of LNB you actually DO have on your slimeline. Is it actually a SWiM LNB or non-SWiM (legacy) output? If it has ONLY 1 connection on it, it's a SWiM; if it has 4 it's legacy.

If it is a legacy LNB, then you MUST have BBC's for your HR24 to work correctly on HD channels (no power inserter is needed & should NOT be used)
If it is SWM, then you MUST have the power inserter (but NO BBC's are used)

I have a swm lnb dish, where can I find the 2" OD pipe/pole?

Wherever pipe is sold...try a local fence company or a Lowes-type store

Soni got my swm power inserter and that keeps me from having to use the bbands right?

BBC's have nothing to do w/having a PI or not - they simply are NOT used in any SWM systems, period!

The pipe at Lowe's or Home Depot will be slightly under 2", so you will need to use flashing in order to get a good fit. Some people go to muffler shopes. Their pipes will be exactly 2". The power inserter is only used in swm setups because the receiver/dvr doesn't supply enough power to run the lnb by itself. You don't need bbcs in a swm setup ever. You also don't need them when you have H/HR23 series equipment whether swm or not.

Ok. So let me get this straight. All I need now is the power inserter? And clearly I need a 2" OD pipe/pole.. So is there anything else? In the dish pointer tool it says I need to be at 47 degrees elevation, 71 degrees tilt, and 205 Degrees azimuth.

And what I've gathered from you is that the PI is the inky thing keeping menfrom getting anything right now.

I'm sorry I must be difficult. I've never tried the tailgating thing before and I wanna get it figured out before getting down there and it not working!!

Huh? The PI provides power to the lnb that the receiver/dvr can't since the swm lnb needs more voltage than a regular lnb.

It should. The connections are: lnb to power inserter to dvr.

For the 2" pipe, check your local Fence company, Lowes and Home Depot won't have the size.

BTW, you ARE gonna set this up several times at home before your tailgating adventure, right ?
