What would that be? He's got SWM, what exactly am I missing?
If Iceberg says that DIRECTV won't enable WHDS because he doesn't have an HR (post #21), I'm inclined to believe him.

I can't explain it and it doesn't seem reasonable but that's what he's being told.

Yes that is what he's being told but he's also calling and asking again. Did you miss that? I've seen R-22's being used as the DVR in whole home set ups but I'm not sure if they were set up by directv. That's why I suggested he call and see what they could do. Thats also why I said that it sounds like they're forcing an upgrade on him to get a HDDVR

I got off the phone with Directv and since the only DVR's I have are a R22 I cannot get MRV. If I had a different model DVR then I could get MRV and the R22 would be able to be attached to the list. I've got some programs on that R22 I really dont want to lose so I dont want to upgrade (plus I'm coming up to the 2 years so I wanna check all options)
Oh well.....I guess those few programs I record in the computer room I'll just have to watch in there :)

It was worth the attempt! If you decided to upgrade with a HDDVR I would swap the H23. That would give you 3 DVR's to record/watch from :)

OMG, I get a life for 3 months and all things go to hell around here.

To everyone who has R22 in regards to HD and MRV: Directv TV systems Sibel's Rio and it underlying framework sees the R22 as an SD DVR Only. This is a unit that never left limited production as DTV realized what a pain it was going to be to deal with. So on an account with JUST R22s you can not add MRV or HD even though the R22 hardware and software support HD and MRV. This is not an issue of equipment but on limitations of directv own internal software systems. For MRV to be added you need to have 1 HDDVR and 1HD box at the minimum. NO ifs NO ands NO buts. No one wants to hear about your great cousin vinnie twice removed who got it working as they didnt. I would know I dealt with this issue since MRV inception. Only time MRV worked was when dtv did the free mrv beta test and that was because it was not a tiered item in our system framework just a option in the recievers firmware. Get over it DTV will never fix there systems.

Note that none of this is directed at my buddy Iceberg just the other rambling people going on about the R22.

Never said he would get it, said it was worth a shot. And FYI, I have seen R-22's running MRV with just HD boxes but I also said it may not have been DTV running. Swapped boxes from friends? Possible. That's why I urged him to attempt and worst case, be forced to upgrade. As far as seibol goes, it's junk! I deal with it daily lol

Btw, where have you been!? I watched you post forever then poof! You was gone

He's been here since almost the beginning.

Took a break ... moved on ...came back to see whats happening.

I been tired but a good kinda of tired.Due to work it been chaotic here, This week I had our emergency on call cell phone So if customers have a system down issue I am just a phone call away.

But I still got plenty of people on the inside at DTV I still have connections and I still here all to gosspip about work and new products coming out. with the HR34 coming out faster then I thought. I would of expected to seen the Directv section of the xbox360 show up. As supposedly the 360 will have a rvu client. Also an update to the direct2pc app was to be out that supported the hr34 live tv functions as the directv2pc app already has RVU in it.

SC, what about the unsupported version of mrv using cat5? Will an R22 work with that?

After all this time, there is only one RVU certified client and no RVU certified servers.

that the problem even if you go into RIO and enabled the force MRV flag option for people who use Cat5 all that does is enable the option in our programing Add Change menu. Do to how they have the system layed out I would be able to see Whole Home as an option but it would be greyed out as the dependency checking part of the system does not see an HDDVR. So while I can force the option in the menu I cant add it from the menu once it forced in there. I verified with some of my old agents, it still that way so nothing has changed.

As long as you qualify for WHDS, the networking scheme doesn't much matter.

It matters in terms of support, RMAs etc. in a technical aspect no whole home does not care how it delivered. Via deca or cat5.

Problem comes in when dealing with support DTV will not support cat5 network, they will try and help but they do not support it.
Also lets say someone with MRV say HR24 H24 and 2 R22s if one of those r22s goes there no promise of getting a replacement r22 they could be sent a r16. Even though the r16 does not support everything the r22 does. As the r22 will always just be considered an SDDVR.

So how do you think people pull it off? Swapped boxes from other accounts? I've seen it done before

If Iceberg put and HDDVR on his account along with his h23 yes we could get it off and then manually remove it and usually unless there an audit it will leave the mrv flags on the receivers. But sometimes it catches right away that your removing something needed for mrv. It is a catch 22 in that reguards. I just dont condone doing it some idiot at directv might end up screwing up your contract date.

Not sure who you contract from. Either way, your office should have information on the HR34 as it releases December 2nd. !

Will the HR34 be available to existing customers as an upgrade on the 2nd? As far as using a 4 way SWM splitter why would it not work with a HR34 if you have a SWM8 setup and only one cable goes from the splitter to the HR34?

As far as upgrading, installing, swapping receivers out ect. I have no clue when we'll be able to use it. And the switch, not sure. We was just told that anything smaller then a 8 way is not recommended. Doesn't make sense to me either.
