I have my EHD plugged into the rear USB port, where initially it was plugged into the front port. I keep my EHD powered on all the time and I haven't had any problems with it. I used it on my 722 receiver and when I upgraded to the 922, I'm able to use it with the 922 now.
I did have one time where the 722 didn't recognize the EHD and I had an authorization sent to my receiver, it then worked again. Thanks.

Have had a couple times when I lost connection to the hard drive. Once, even though the usb cable hadn't moved, replacing it worked. The other time, pulled the usb out of the back connection and put it in the front usb and for some reason, that worked. I don't leave the power to the drive on, just powering it up when needed. I think I wore out the first external drive by leaving it on all the time.

External hard drive hookup

Don't know if this is posted if it is I'm sorry but is there a way to hookup my new 1tb external hard drive with all my videos I tried and there was no reaction and I tried on my google tv but that didn't work either so Is there a way to get it to work

Quick question...I read this post below, but I want to double-check:

Let's say you have a 722k & 211k activated at the SAME time, & you go ahead & pay the $40 EHD fee for the 211k, before you start even adding any EHD's to either receiver. Is it possible to use the same EHD on both of these receivers?
Example, say you want to move a bunch of shows from the 722k's internal drive to the EHD, THEN attempt to use it on the 211k - will this work?

Unfortunately, the 722k and 211k can not share an EHD. The 211k uses the EHD to turn it into a DVR (conversion), and the 722k uses it to back up recordings (archive). Below are the EHD families for our receivers. If you attempt to move the EHD between the two families, it will prompt to format the EHD, deleting all content on it.

Archiving - 612, 622, 722, 722k, 922

Conversion - 211, 211k, 411

Newbie BUMMED out!

Hello, 15 year DISH sub but new guy here. Fairly ignorant when it comes to this stuff and had a couple of opinions but figured this HAS to be the place for a definitive answer? Ok, 3 weeks ago I finally purchased a WD Elements 1TB EHD and when I introduced it to my "first" 722 it formatted perfectly... Transfering most of the 1st 722's content to the EHD went smooth as silk...I then connected this EHD to my "second" 722 and AGAIN tranfering DVR's data went pefectly...BUT, I have been told this is NOT supposed to happen but it did and I was VERY happy. So I now have this new EHD over half full. Since day one functionality between the second 722 and new EHD has been Flawless and working very smoothly... Then last Sat. just after watching some content from the EHD I switch back to regular DVR programming and suddenly the awful banner appears stating I MUST reformat and loose all of EHD's content in order to regain functionality with Dish. Sorry alot of chatter for probably a simple question but what happened after 3 weeks of smooth sailing? Any suggestions from the Sat Guys Tech Gurus? Options? Guess I must loose all of my new EHD's content in order to resume functionality with Dish again? THANKS for any suggestions................

Send me a PM with your phone number or account number. The 722 probably lost its "home key", which I can reauthorize for you so you don't have to format the EHD.

For over a year, I've been swapping a single 750 GB WD EHD between my 622 and 722 without incident. They are the same family receivers and thus the drive is swappable between them.

Matt will fix you up.

Yes, I thought so. With several friends giving me conflicting opinions/suggestions and several different Dish advanced techies telling me numerous different lines of BS and how the NEW EHD is defective and you can not switch between two different 722's as it won't work etc. I definitely need my head examined, Why didn't I come here first??? I apologize. I will contact Matt, THANKS!

Thanks much guys. I'll reconnect the EHD to our pimary 722 that it will be "staying" with and see what happens but now that I have spoken with you Sat Guys no hurry. Matt may have a solution that works but if it doesn't I'll jst have to let it go and I'll be happy to hang with you all as 15 years with Dish and wih replacing/swapping 9 different good ol' DVR 7200's back in the day there's gonna be plenty of tech support etc. I'll need. Thanks!

Matt I am having the same issue with my external hard drive. It has been working fine for the last year and a half now it wants me to reformat. Contacted dish support for them to tell me the only way is a reformat. Is it possible for you to reauthorize my box. Thanks

Yes I feel your absolute frustration. My wife is heartbroken as we've lost SO much recorded hard drive data from swapping defective DVR's over the years so we FINALLY buy a 1TB EHD, fill it at least 2/3rd's full and now with only 3 weeks of EHD use Dish says we still
MUST reformate and loose everything...PM'd Matt our phone info etc but haven't heard a reply...Can anyone explain just how a DVR 722's "HOME KEY" can be reauthorized as this is a supposed fix??? Opinions? Suggestions? Thanks anyone?...Kind Regards!...Mike & Tina
