Yes i have. Is the photo gallery still on this forum? If so, You can see my BUD's! But, i took down the 6 footer a few yrs ago. When it didn't make sense to have 2 4DTV subs on 2 seperate receivers anymore.

And you sir have a real dislike for the DBS company's. So much that you spread lies about them. The 2yr contract is just one of them! :D

This is from the small print on the Dish packages information at the bottom of their packages. So that's why I ask about it.

Maybe you should read more and do more research before posting
or accusing someone of lying.

why are we arguing over petty things? I dont get why folks get into arguments over TV....Seriously the question has been asked a few times about a contract and has been answered. But I'll be nice and re-iterate it

Simple version
If you want free or heavily discounted leased equipment and all the "cool" offers provided (which would be a 1 year promo price, free add ons, etc) its a 24 month agreement. Simple
If you buy the equipment from Ebay/Craigslist/a dealer and pay full price each month for the package there is no contract

a little longer answer and info with the Welcome Pack
If someone wants to compliment their H2H programming with the Welcome Pack from Dish as example I suggest to buy the equipment. There is no contract and the WP is mainly SD programming only so a 311 would be dirt cheap (like $30-$40 max). You can get a new 211 for say $100-$125 (I got mine for $102 shipped brand new). You can pay a one time $40 fee and that allows to add a hard drive (as many as you feel you want to use...you are not tied to one drive) and there are no DVR fees after that. While the programming is in SD your locals would be in HD (if available) and any freeviews Dish has the programming would be in HD if available (and you have a dish set up for HD). Another option would be Dish America for 34.99 that has alot of the "mainstream" (as most folks call them) channels and they're in HD. The 34.99 is if you bought the equipment. If you leased (and did the contract) it's $10 off for 12 months and the extra freebies. You could also get a bigger DVR like the 722 which has 2 sat tuners in it (and 1 or 2 OTA depending on model) and allows you to view 2 different shows on 2 different TV's.....the only thing is that has a DVR fee of $6 monthly

Well, i've had Dish since '05 and never had a contract. I thought it would be common knowledge by now. And the fine print you posted above had to be on the bottom of some teaser rate page.

Did you even read any of the previous posts? :facepalm

Yeah, i read it! And i also read post #99.;)
But, i agree DISH does make it hard to sign up without a contract. If anybody's planning on doing this and after you install your owned equipment. You maybe better off just to make contact with the Dirt team here in the forum. Instead of fighting your way through several phone reps before you find one that has a clue.

I just got back home from Costa Rica and had a renewal notice for HITS in the snail mail. Not sure if I'm going to spend the money to renew. But, since my son gets a lot of entertainment off of HITS I might just renew one more time. For me, I'm considering just doing streaming of video from Netflix (a LOT less advertising but slow start up of programs). As for DN, I don't like their business practices. I haven't had any dealings with DTV but I know some people that have it because they tell me that the sports package is much better than DN. I almost spoke with a DTV rep that was at a WalMart in Denver yesterday but decided against it. Anyway, the bottom line is how much you value television. Sure is nice to be home and watch TV on the 47". I missed my recliner also.

Earlier today I looked into possibly getting DirecTV's Family Package (29.99) using an older DirecTV dish I still have installed aimed at 101 degrees. I would of used an SD receiver to avoid an additional $7 monthly DVR fee. I thought this DirecTV package would go well with my existing Dish Network Welcome Package.

However, after I compared the "real" (non shopping, religious, FTA) channels that are not included within the Dish Network Welcome Package I discovered that by subscribing to Skyvision's HITS Digital Basic Package ($26.99) I would be getting 11 additional "real" channels for $3 less per month and the channel selection is better with several higher tier channels included.

HITS Digital Basic Package (27 channels):
? BBC America
? Centeric (BET Jazz)
? The Biography Channel
? Chiller
? Cooking Channel
? OWN (Discovery Health)
? Planet Green (Discovery Home)
? Discovery Military
? Discovery Science
? Investigation Discovery (Discovery Times)
? ESPN Classic
? FIT TV
? Game Show Network
? GAC
? Halogen (Inspirational Life)
? History 2
? HGTV W
? IFC
? Lifetime Movie Network
? National Geographic
? OLN (Versus)
? RFD
? Speed
? Sprout for Kids
? Style
? Disney XD (Toon Disney)
? Turner Classic Movies

DirecTV Family Package (16 channels):
204 Headline News (Wouldn't watch much)
230 DIY Network (Will miss this channel, but sometimes appears as free preview on Dish)
276 National Geographic Channel (Included in HITS Digital Basic)
284 Science Channel (Included in HITS Digital Basic)
285 Investigation Discovery (Included in HITS Digital Basic)
290 Disney Channel (East) (Don't watch since daughter is now 16)
291 Disney Channel (West) (Don't watch since daughter is now 16)
292 Disney XD (Included in HITS Digital Basic)
295 PBS KIDS Sprout (Included in HITS Digital Basic)
299 Nickelodeon/Nick at Nite (East) HD (Don't watch since daughter is now 16)
300 Nickelodeon/Nick at Nite (West) (Don't watch since daughter is now 16)
301 Nick Jr. (Included in HITS Digital Basic)
302 Nicktoons Network (Included in HITS Digital Basic)
303 TeenNick (Included in HITS Digital Basic)
338 Gospel Music Channel (Same shows on Hallmark and INSP)
345 RFD TV (Included in HITS Digital Basic)

So, I'm going to subscribe to HITS for another few months to support the service.

I am sorry but I was treated like dirt by Dish back in 2000. If I could get past that and move on then the only way I would consider them is if they offered affordable genre based packages without sports or if a la carte was back like they had in 2000! As long there are other options like HITS then no Dish for me! :D

the alacarte horse is dead and buried so it aint happening. Heck even SRL has a very small selection of alacarte and at $6 a pop I bet there are very few takers
They do have packages without sports....its called Welcome Pack ;)
Also have to realize that companies own more than one type of genre. ESPN/Disney owns a lot as does Fox. There has been plenty of talk about that in both the Dish and Directv forum

I guess I was sick of using slow as molasses Motorola boxes so thats why I wont sub to HITS...that and they dont have the programming I want

 Ooops! It was more of a pick 10 pack and not a la carte. I should of been more specific! Like I said if they offered it again then I might consider! ;)

I have only been in the Dish/DirecTv area a couple of times so I have no idea on what is up with them other than what bleeds over in here! ;)

I used to get DIY in my NPS package on C3 and I enjoyed that one too! I never thought the day would come that I would say that I miss my NPS sub. Is DIY also part Discovery?

we have just moved to the family pack for dish at 15 mo. since we have been with dish for years. diy is part of the family pack. internet is still working here and this is our service order date on our phone and internet change over to dish. finally have my 8' tracking reliably pretty much so the wife can use it now. only thing left is to get the microhd and wife can start using the bud. might try using the solomend but then my toy is gone for a while. geosatpro dsr 200c is ok but no hd on it and no sound if ac3. charlie

As of 9AM this morning I'm once again a HITS subscriber. :)

Just so people know History E & W is now included in Skyvision's Digital Basic package. They really need to upgrade their website showing the current channels offered and cost. I guess History was a replacement for TV land in this package.

One thing I like about the Motorola DSR-410 receiver is the on screen graphics. Although very simple, they are easy to read across the room with the gray background and white text. I'm also not seeing the slow as molasses channel changing like Ice pointed out. Channel changes take approx. 2 seconds.
