NCAA spokesperson Stacey Osburn confirmed Tressel will not be allowed to have contact with recruits if he is not a "countable coach."

However, look what he CAN do AFTER the first 5 weeks, btw, diden't he already have his 5 weeks off with the Colts, why is he being forced to miss another 5 weeks ?

Tressel, according to the NCAA, cannot engage in "coaching duties" for the first five weeks at a new institution and in the postseason.

However, the show-cause does not prohibit him, for example, from having contact with recruits in his office while they are visiting campus. It also does not explicitly state that he cannot have contact with coaches or current student-athletes, or attend football practice or provide overall advice on how to improve the football program.


Interesting, he can do everything he would do normally except be on the field it looks like ...

He's a good coach. If he ever gets back, hopefully he's learned how to avoid scandals and keep on top of his players. He has a lot to offer to the game IMO.

Very excited about the upcoming season. FLA has a top 5 Recruiting class which seems to be a thing new coaches love to do here. The first class they recruit not so good, but the second year (as with zook and Meyer) have great promise. We got a lot of great players to fit the "pro style" offense Muschamp is convinced on running.. The only real doubt is at Quaterback. Who will make it to the starting job. We have 3 highly touted prospects who really have not panned out.

This past season being the year of the quarterback, I think a lot of schools will be looking to see who steps up at that position. That is what will determine how successful my Pokes will be next season.

First of all: Before we go on, don't get too excited, because it's nothing official or anything. But yeah, when perennial playoff opponent Jim Delany said earlier this year that he may actually be open to the idea of a four-team bracket, it turns out he wasn't just blowing smoke. Per theChicago Tribune (emphasis added):

The Big Ten is not only ready to listen to proposals regarding a national four-team football playoff, league and school officials are kicking around an intriguing idea.
Sources told the Tribune that a Big Ten plan would remove the top four teams from the BCS bowl pool and have semifinal games played on the college campus of the higher seed. That would do away with the facade of "neutral" sites such as New Orleans, Miami and Pasadena, Calif., and ease travel concern for fans.
The championship game then could be bid out, like the Super Bowl.

Phillips said the conference will apply four specific questions:
1) Is it fair to the student-athletes already suiting up for 12-13 games?
2) Would it undermine college football's vital regular season?
3) Would the teams be chosen in a way that reflects competitive fairness?
And of course
4) Can the Rose Bowl be protected?

Sounds like the BigTen wants to have its cake and eat it too.

I agree with the format. Top 2 seeds host. No way in this economy that fans of 4 teams travel to a neutral site then turn around and travel to play at another site.
I say let's do it. The sooner the better!!

Doesn't mean they are going to play a playoff in Pasadena, but I'm sure they want it to keep it in a spot of prestige in the remaining bowl games, as it should be, given its history.

It is inevitably going to drop in prestige with a playoff of any kind, even more so with the Big 10 proposal of using home locations for the top seeds. (unless the rose bowl bids to be THE spot for the NCG)

And the more teams you add to the mix for a playoff, the more irrelevant it, and its peers in the current bowl setup become. (again, unless the above)

I guess I understand their thoughts on it, but I just dont see it as very realistic if they move forward.

Hello Big 12!!!

Four football players were among 17 TCU students arrested on drug charges Wednesday, and an arrest warrant for one of the players alleges that at least three players were dealing drugs.

According to the warrant, one of the players also said that drug use was widespread on the Horned Frogs' team.

Yikes! That's a lot of fingers on the laces of a fooball. I can only assume that Urban was misquoted on the above statement.
