New hardware on the horizon?

Depends on the way you look at it. I think the kangaroo is a step behind the HR34 setup. Its a scalable system and soooo much easier to install. Try hooking up 5 hoppers to one dish and see how that works out. And also make them be able to play all the programming on any dvr.

No reason that D* should have to bring out something more than what they have, improvements, yes, but new stuff for something that the other guys tried to catch up with you with ?
No.
This is the same line of reasoning that keeps the HR24 in the same class of DVR as the HR20.

Wouldn't it be cool if they could step out of the "Plus HD DVR" rut and let the HR24 tackle some of the stuff that the HR21 couldn't handle?

Isn't Dish actually catching up with the Hopper? I don't know where they are with hardware upgrades but the current system imo is ahead of Dish.

Yes, exactly. I have the new Hoppers. They are very good.

But not yet as good as Direcs MRV. All the Hoppers can't yet
communicate with each other.

Waiting for a software download.

Yippie, give it a new name !!!

That good enough for you ?

The Hr24 is a HUGE step above the HR21.

Why would you need 5 hoppers (or 4 HMCs)?

Those with more than 4 DVRs are usually looking for security from recording loss which could be handled much more easily and reliably by an archiving facility like DISH offers.

People need weird setups...some have lots of people in the house.

Yet the HR24's feature set is practically identical to that of the HR21.

I'd like to see DIRECTV take a shot at recording four tuners or maybe taking a whack at driving two WHDS sessions at once.

That would be in the Next Generation of recvrs, not the Hr24 series.

Could someone confirm this, or you just cannot setup a recording from the H25?

you can set it up.. but you can't manage/edit it after that from the H25... you have to get up and walk over the to the HR34 to make any changes (or heaven forbid delete an accidental button press to record something)

Direct has no business even thinking about NEW h/w.. the existing "new" h/w is barely earning "partial credit" at this point (IMO)...

The guide on the HR34 is only just becoming stable, and it really does lack integration with as a "whole home" concept. Its a whole home player... but not well integrated IMO.

Why the hell do you even come to the Directv forum? Oh yeah, I know why, and so does everyone else.

I said 5.

In his defense you said five hoppers. Which would be 15 tuners or 15 independent hdtvs.

I never said anything about tuners. I said 5 hoppers. That would only feed 5 TVs, would it feed more? I thought the hopper only had one output feed.

5 HR24s would be 10 tuners but still would only feed 5 TVs.

Dish really has y'all brainwashed with the only needing 3 tuners in a household eh?

I should have added with Joeys at the extended TVs, which I took as implied. My mistake. Most likely the same one that he made? I have no idea, but makes sense with his comment.

Ill quit. I can feel myself being called a troll as we speak. ;)

I can't say exactly when I'm going to do it,but I am considering replacing both my HR23-700 & HR22-100 with the HR34 & the THR22. I'd put the HR34 in my living room & then move my HR24-500 into my room. The THR22 would go into my mother's bedroom to record the shows that she likes. Then my set up would be rounded out by my H24-700 & H25-500. I see that I'd get a net increase of 1 tuner for my MRV set up,which is good enough for me.

Fyi, in case your not aware, the THR22 doesn't do everything the rest do, either SWM or MRV from what I remember.
Someone will update that info , but I know theres something different about it.
