DISH Drops AMC Networks (AMC Back on DISH channel 131)

Does Amazon or Itunes offer them soon after they have aired? Or is it much later?? Like mos or weeks later...

1. Buy the DVDs/BRDs
2. Netflix/Hulu/Amazon/iTunes

The extra money you spend on those options above could possibly be saved by cord-shaving (temporarily dropping to a lower programming pack).

Or as you say, you could switch.

everyone has a breaking point
Just don't "Break Bad"...

 sorry, that was low-hanging fruit, and I had to pick it.

Dish is doing nothing for me, as I have those channels in my Platinum (or whatever the extra $10/mo I pay for HDnet, HDnet Movies, Epix, etc. is called this cycle). They should drop the $10/mo to $7.50/mo to reflect the non-exclusive nature of these channels after the move. Won't happen, though.

Yup I am losing 3 channels and still paying the same amount I am now... they should give us NEW channels such as FearNet. (Sorry had to say it before someone else did) :D

I thought the same thing when i lost FX for a while, that was my breaking point. of course had it been amc, i woulda switched too

dish has a habit of giving channels that are in higher teirs to replace stations they lose. it really makes those that pay for the higher teir think twice

Same here. I have the AEP pkg and already get all of the "new replacement channels".

I would imagine a lot of us in that same boat, funny part is last time this happened with a channel all the guys trying to get you to switch over to D at various retail stores kept on promising me I could get out of my contract because of it, almost fell for it...

Wait a minute. AMC was available in AT200 and up tiers. Style and HDNET (AXS) are already available to those customers. How is this a fair trade-off? I don't understand that at all. And gaining HDNET Movies is exactly what I thought would happen, move down programming from either AT250 and/or BB@Home and not bring in anything new. Since I'm a AT200 + BB@Home subscriber, I don't get anything to replace what I'm losing. And AT200, AT250 and AEP customers who don't have BB@Home only get HDNET Movies. Pass the K-Y around next time Charlie.

DISH notified AMC Networks earlier in the year of its decision not to renew its contract due to the channels' high costs compared to their relatively low viewership.

So, in other words, this was a done deal months ago. So much for any last minute negotiating. It explains why Dish didn't waste time and said, quite matter-of-factly over a month ago, that AMC would be gone by July 1. Not to mention directing viewers to other means to watch their favorite shows!

For the last few years, I've looked to Dish for that niche programming I can't get anywhere else, such as international sports, but I also certainly wanted to feel comfortable that what I call the "common" channels would still be there for me. AMC is a very popular channel and hosts at least five of the most critically acclaimed shows on TV.

This decision dismays me, but it also has given me time to think. I'm really thinking of severely cutting back with Dish now, and dropping down to one of the most very basic packages. After all, it's Dish's sentiments that programming can be accessed by other means, right? And I think, for the most part, Dish is right! I was a viewer who would add packages and channels simply because I like television. I like the novelty of having new channels I otherwise wouldn't get somewhere else. Well, after a while the novelty wears off. I'll have to see what I can do to keep the lowest price package while keeping my sports channels. That's all I really want anyway... well, at least until Dish cuts the cord with ESPN/Disney altogether... and don't kid yourself. That day will probably come.

If it wasn't for losing my local RSNs, I would probably reduce my subscription from AT200 + BB@Home to Dish America + BB@Home. The shows that we like on BBCA, Animal Planet, Science, etc. are all available on Netflix (a year later though). That $25 per month savings can purchase/rent a lot of streamed shows or discs. Maybe I'll go to Dish America Silver or AT120+ and save $10 instead. For me it isn't the fact that I'm losing a channel I like. It's the fact that Dish couldn't care less about replacing what was lost.

and that is why we no longer have it.....

Breaking Bad: iTunes - TV Shows - Breaking Bad, Season 5

you can bet they will probably do the same for TWD, MM, and the other shows.

And for those that are considering doing this, I suggest you get one show in SD to see if it is more than good enough. The SD from iTunes and Amazon isn't anything at all like that provided by Dish or Direct. In fact, imo, the SD from them for these shows is as good as the HD provided by AMC or in my case BBCA. I tested this just a few days ago and was very pleasantly surprised.

The difference between a season pass on iTunes for most shows in SD vs HD is about $10. Not insignificant.

Crap,

I was afraid it would come to this...How do I get this seasons walking dead  I'm month to month on Dish...Might be time to make a switch

Season 3 of Walking Dead will be on Netflix when the DVDs/BDs are released.
OR You can watch the latest episode the day after it airs on AMC through iTunes or Amazon. (I'm pretty sure it's not on Hulu) Purchasing a season pass at either of those places will save you a buck or two.

You know what though, these channels think they can charge whatever the hell they want to because they know companies will pay because they don't want to piss off their customers. If you look back at some articles with quotes from AMC's top brass. He's up there pounding his chest saying that his content is better than everyone else. He thinks that they are right up there with HBO. But at the same time you read about these super successful shows like The Walking Dead for example and how between Seasons 1 and 2 the show runner left because the network wanted more episodes but for less cost. And their show was already done cheap to begin with for the quality that they killed themselves to produce. You have people working on that set that could get paid much more on other productions because they choose to work with this guy instead because they knew and wanted to work with him. AMC had a hit after the first episode, but instead of putting good money into it. They squeezed them. I know it's nothing new for television these days, but stories like that really make me feel like there's a disconnect between the top execs and viewers. A line needs to be drawn in the sand and if it means I need to watch The Walking Dead through some other means, then fine. I have two Roku's and four game consoles in the house with access to subscription services. And I have other things to watch on my DVR.

I can empathize with that, too... Dish replaces those channels by simply pulling down channels they already provide to their higher paying customers! Well, I'm a higher paying customer, and all this does is result in dropping channels for me! What do I get in return?? A few PPV movie vouchers?

I may go over to seriously check out Hulu and see if they have any of the shows I watch regularly. And if they don't, there are a lot of shows I haven't been able to watch over the years that I'll now have time to catch up on. You know what? It's time for me to take control of my viewing. Thanks, Dish, for opening up my eyes! You'll be getting a lot less money from me as a result.

Just got this...

DISH to Replace AMC With Commercial-Free HD Movies

New Programming Also Slated to Replace IFC, WE

ENGLEWOOD, CO -- (Marketwire) -- 06/29/12 -- DISH (NASDAQ: DISH) will replace three AMC Networks channels -- IFC, WE and AMC -- tomorrow at 11:59 p.m. ET with what the company believes is stronger movie and entertainment content.

DISH will be providing HDNet Movies to replace AMC, and is offering Style and HDNet to replace WE and IFC.
They're not really replacing anything. I already receive these channels, as do many subs.

Now, if they actually added channels that they do not already carry, that would be a different story.

Truly, this is how effective change will work. Speaking with your wallet. Dish speaks with their wallet against AMC et.al. by dropping them, Dish customers speak with their wallets against Dish by paying less or switching. One can only hope that other programming conglomerates take notice.
