Hopper S217 Feedback

Turned on the master bedroom Joey this morning. Got the looking for Hopper message. Reset Joey, no help. Checked MoCa and broadband on the livingroom Hopper that the Joey is connected to, and all was green. Did a RBR, and the Joey still doean't see that Hopper. Ended up linking it to the other Hopper so I could listen to the news as I got ready for work. Will dig into it deeper when I get home from work.

Is anyone else still getting the glitch at :29 and :59 past the hour. It's better but still there for me. Worse on Joey than Hopper.

I still have the glitches also. I emailed Dirt about this a while back and they said it was not on the known problems list. I wish they would acknowledge the problem and maybe it would get fixed.

My bad Typo - S/B Denon 3808ci
Awesome AVR. I had one, and a 2805 before that. Both awesome. But, gave the 3808 up for a 3311. I believe I needed more HDMI inputs or pass-thru, or something. I can't really remember why. But, I regretted it. And, when the HDMI board died after slightly more than a year, along with the so-so, almost Onkyo-like audio quality, it soured me on Denon. So, I moved to the Yamaha A3000, which is the same kind of awesome the 3808 was, but with a more modern feature set.

But, I really don't think the audio thing is an HDMI issue, as changing the channel restores it. If it was an HDMI issue, it would require powering down and on one of the components to initiate a new handshake.

I recall after my initial Hopper/Joey installation back in April my channel changes were essentially instantaneous.
Since at least S213 my channel changes take almost 2 seconds.
Even after several H/J power resets, when I press the "channel" button it takes about 2 seconds to acquire the new channel.

Is this the "new" normal with these latest software "upgrades"?

I think you'd have to be blind (or never watch TV) to not notice the glitches. Even my 91-year-old grandmother noticed the hiccups at the top and the bottom of the hour. It's not a huge issue but it's pretty annoying when someone is saying something and it gets cut off.

Oddly, that's the one bug I don't think I've ever noticed. And, I'm certainly not blind.

It might be that I don't watch much live TV. Almost all of our Dish viewing is DVR or OnDemand. Is this something on all channels, or just the Big Four? If the latter, maybe it has something to do with PTAT.

I see it on recorded material as well. It is so fast that I really don't care about it, but I can see it might be an irritant to many.

it hasn't happened on any of the hd-dvr units I've worked with 622, 612, 722 never had this. I haven't had the 922 so can't comment on it.

that this wasn't fixed prior to launch is an alarming indictment on their qa group.

I agree on Denon, the 3xxx series definitely took a wrong turn after the 3808, luckily it meets all my current needs. I've always had a fondness for Yamaha receivers, I owned a stereo one for a while in the late 70's, beautiful warm sounding amps.

Yeah does look like something post 'successful' handshake not being triggered.

Two hoppers and two Joeys. Hoppers are on R217. When I use the weather channel app and switch back to regular tv, the audio is on for the wrong channel. I can turn the Hopper off and then back on fix the problem.

The app for the olympics does that also...among other things. The record feature is hit and miss at best and I got one O recording that had the dreaded 04 error.....

New member. I just got a Hopper / Joey mid last week, upgrading from a VIP722/VIP211 system. It took the installers what seemed to me (I do commercial AV, and control system programming) like a long time to get the Hopper hooked up, mainly because it kept rebooting during the initial connection phase where it was acquiring satellite signal. The techs replaced the existing LNB and reterminated some connections and that seemed to fix the issue. I've had a few issues similar to what people have reported in this thread:

* once, when coming out of standby on the Hopper, IR didn't seem to function - though I didn't try the Dish remote - I'll try that next time. I pressed the reset button, and when the unit came back, IR seemed to work

* several instances of audio from one tuner, video from another. I eventually found that pressing the input select button on the Dish remote fixed the problem. My wife and kids had a good laugh at the funny juxtaposition of the video from a HBO drama with audio from the Olympics! The Olympic app seemed to have triggered at least one of these incidents.

*several instances of no audio returning from standby. I have a Denon AVR-3312CI as my receiver. A reset fixed this, I'll try some of the remedies mentioned in this thread next time. I also had this no-audio issue happen after playing with streaming to an iPad using the sling adapter. Not sure if was the act of streaming over the sling that caused the problem.

The Joey connection via MoCA was pretty cool. I'd have to say that I'm pushing the envelope on that connection's length (~480'), yet signal strength is solid green, and that unit seems stable (so far).

I also am getting this glitch on both of my hoppers. Has been happening since installation in March.

Yes, I had my install the first weekend and it has been around since day one.

Here we are about 5 months after launch and it's still there . Frustrating to say the least. I understand that some bugs are difficult to eradicate but this seems to be a particularly troublesome one to fix.
